Legislature proposes salary hike for Texas lawmakers

The Regular Session of the 62nd Legislature ballots 14 constitutional amendments with seven printed today and seven on Nov 3. Amendment 1 would raise annual legislative pay to 8400 while keeping mileage and per diem unchanged, a shift from the 4800 rate set in 1960. Proponents argue higher pay fits lengthy sessions and complex governance.

DPS Renews Plan To Recruit Blacks

The Texas Department of Public Safety re launches a Black Recruiting Program led by Adelph Thomas. Local Attorney Donates Large Law Library to Tom Green County

Sam McCollum III donated about 6 195 volumes valued around 50 000 to Tom Green County for use by West Texas lawyers. The Newman McCollum Law Library will be housed in the San Angelo courthouse with a planned fulltime librarian and perpetual maintenance to ensure access to state and federal case law.

Driver Injured In Trailer Accident West of Brady

Valente Adams a 56 year old San Diego Texas man was injured when a Mission Petroleum Carriers tank trailer jackknifed on Highway 87 West ten miles west of Brady. He was treated at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital for a fractured right shoulder forehead lacerations and facial bruises. No fire or explosion occurred and no other injuries were reported.
