Brady and Llano meet in Llano Friday night with the season on the line for a district playoff berth. Llano features veteran backs Micky Virdell Burns Laning and a strong line led by Hatch Smith as they chase a rare district win.
About 400 TS&GR members gather in Brady High School for the tri annual meeting hosted by McCulloch County directors. Senator Wayne Connally will speak on Amendment No. 3 tax measures with local officials and ranch groups attending the afternoon session.
Daylight saving time ends Sunday at 2 a.m. when clocks fall back one hour. If you miss the change you can adjust before bed for an extra hour of sleep. The sun’s rise and set times remain the same, but the body must adjust.
Absentee voting started Oct. 14 at the McCulloch County Clerk's office and will end Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. By Wednesday noon 43 voters had cast absentee ballots, with about 100 more expected for the Nov. 3 general election.
City Council votes 3 to 2 to keep the Chief of Police as an appointive position rather than elective. Mayor Davee favors electing the chief. Davenport and King support elective, Moore Young and Micklethwait oppose. Other actions include bids on gasoline, resignations and hires, and city improvements.
The McCulloch County Singing Convention will gather at Brady Gospel Church on East Pearl Street at 2 p m Sunday. The public is invited to attend.
Mrs. Lois Bratton Leach of Brady died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Funeral 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lamar Leifeste. Burial Rest Haven Cemetery. Born April 9, 1898 in Mason County, she married Foster Leach in 1916. he died in 1956. Survived by three daughters, one son, four brothers, a sister, six grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Four establishments report 100 percent participation in the McCulloch County United Fund drive as of Thursday morning. Carrithers Insurance Agency Samuel's Department Store The Brady Standard and Monterey Brady Nursing Inn contributed all employee donations. The fund total stood at 3,211 dollars.
Mrs. Jewell McLeod Cain, 54, of Brady, died at 2 p m. Funeral services were held at 3 30 p m Wednesday in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel conducted by Henry McBroom. Burial was in Pontotoc Cemetery. Born Aug 26 1916 in Pontotoc she lived in Brady the past year. She and her husband owned the Brady Steak House. Survivors include her husband a son Kenneth G. McLeod of Brady four sisters Mrs Frank Snyder Pontotoc Mrs C R Smythe Stockdale Mrs Garner Sequist Mason and Mrs D R Brewer Rosiclare Illinois.
The Brady Chapter of Young Homemakers of Texas sponsors the Second Annual Turkey Shoot at Brady Rod and Gun Club Rifle Range on Brady Lake starting 1 30 p m. Off hand matches at live turkeys cost 1 per shot at 100 yards. 85 yard open sights off hand matches at 1 per shot. and target matches at 1 per entry. Live turkeys will be awarded to winners and free refreshments will be provided for a family afternoon.
St Patrick's Catholic Church hosts a Fall Festival starting at 4 p m Saturday at the National Guard Armory. A barbecue supper is available at 5 30 for adults and 75 cents for children. Door prizes include a portable television set a shotgun colored cookware and other items. A cakewalk and many games accompany the event. Public invitation to attend.
