The City Council voted to hire a rate consultant to set an interim gas rate to keep the gas company afloat and propose a permanent rate. In a Wednesday night special meeting the council also hired Austin attorney Don Butler to represent the city in negotiations with Brady.
School enrollment rose by 75 to 1 521 on Sept 9 1976. Enrollment remains high since 1973. Classes mostly exceed 100 students except special education kindergarten and 12th grade. Gate receipts from the first five football games increased by over 2200, from 6345 to 8574 dollars due to good weather crowds and team performance.

The Colorado River Municipal Water District seeks a permit to build a 554000 acre foot lake on the Colorado River near the Concho Coleman line. If approved, a $90 million project would supply municipal and industrial water for West Texas. The site lies 19 miles north northeast of Eden and east of Paint Rock. Financing would be via revenue bonds repaid from water sales.
First Christian Church members will plant acorn trees grown from the original oak after Sunday services to mark the 95th anniversary. Eight trees will decorate the sanctuary and the yard plan includes a cake and luncheon. A public hearing for related contracts is expected later, with water project details tied to regional needs and a 140 mile pipeline plan.
The County Commissioners approved the 1978 budget of 838,361 dollars and voted to provide unemployment compensation of 12 dollars per quarter for each employee. They promoted Mary Lou Lira to first deputy and Patricia Wilkerson to second deputy, with Linda Morris hired as deputy. W. E. Lohn Jr. was authorized to buy an errors and omissions policy up to 100000 dollars. and appointed Charles Samuelson Lewis A. Jordan and W. E. Lohlin Jr. to the Veteran County Committee. Sheriff Bill Strickland authorized to hire Carolyn Cruz as secretary.
The McCulloch County Farm Bureau holds its annual membership meeting next Tuesday night in the Brady Schools cafeteria. Registration starts at 6 p m with a barbecue supper at 7 p m priced at 2.25 per plate. Five directors will be elected and the vote will include resolutions for farm and ranch families. Prizes after the meeting include 25 from the Farm Bureau and auto batteries from local stations Rochelle donors. The bureau has 730 members, up from 680 last year, earning a plaque at a District 7 event in Brownwood. Attendees included David Dahlberg president and Mr and Mrs Warren Jones and Mr and Mrs Jesse Huro.
