UTA Swimmer Russell Wins Olympic 100 Meter Butterfly
UT Arlington senior Doug Russell, 22, won the 100-meter butterfly at the Olympics with a strategic final kick, finishing 55.9 seconds, narrowly behind the world record. He credits America's year-round program and mental toughness for swimming dominance and hints at a 1972 Munich bid. He also won gold in a medley relay and comments on the demonstrations by some Negro athletes.
