Brady hosts Belton for tonight football game amid warm hospitality after Belton’s gracious visit last year. Belton fans coaches and players praised by Brady officials and band members as the two towns forecast a lasting athletic friendship.
The Belton Tigers of 10957 are a better all round football team than last year’s squad. Ken Owens leads scoring with nine TDs and Steve Barnes adds four. Jarrel Hayes is improved at quarterback with two rushing TDs, four passing scores, and 12 extra points. Billy Utsler shines at halfback with eight TDs. Roy Northern adds four. Four ends Karl Inman Fowler Brantley have a TD on passes. The team averages 212 rushing yards and 48 passing per game, with close wins over Vegra Rockdale Georgetown and a 28-20 Taylor game. Belton is a senior heavy squad with eleven seniors.
Belton's Tigers travel for a bi district playoff at Brady's Bulldog Stadium Friday night at 7 45. Tickets are 1 50 general and 50 cents students, with east and west entrances, marking Brady's first bi district game here since 1959. Belton is 10 game winner and scored 246 to 55 allowed, Brady 308 to 104, with Lampasas earlier a 41 18 Brady win and 26 0 Belton win.
The Texas Water and Sewage Works Association declines to accept Edward Geeslin of Brady as president after he announced retirement. In a letter, W M Ehlers and Sam Warrington urge him to continue guiding the organization, praising his experience and urging service in consulting roles.
Brady's Flamingo Inn cafe opens Monday Nov 25 at 708 North Bridge Street. Mrs Lillie May Simon leads the venture with 50 seats and a menu of short orders lunches and breakfasts. Free coffee and doughnuts offered 8 30 to 10 30 am and 2 50 to 4 30 pm. The Stanphills and Knutsons built the new structure north of Red and White Grocery. barber shop planned for south section.
Postmaster Mrs. Barry Francks urges careful addressing and packaging to ensure faster Christmas mail. Use full names, street and house number or box, city and state. wrap gifts securely and add correct postage. Free labels aid out of town delivery. return addresses are essential. Mail out of town by Dec 10 and nearby by Dec 15.
The Brady City Council granted H. G. Moore a taxicab permit and passed a new ordinance allowing Southwestern States Telephone Company to increase service. Wootan sought a two way radio on his wreckers, Chief Jones to hire an extra traffic officer for Friday’s game, bids opened for a new city dump track, with a bid delay. Power plant output rose by 50,000 to 40,000 kilowatts over last year.
The Brady Volunteer Fire Department fought a nighttime blaze at 1106 Crothers Ave damaging the Bryson garage and their 1954 Chevrolet four door sedan. Origin of the fire undetermined. Firefighters had the flames under control quickly. A rear wash house and nearby parakeet bird house survived. The Brysons had remodeled the structures last summer.
Elmer McLean phoned to say he sold the Shetland pony after placing a single ad in the Tuesday issue. The piece notes that small Classy-Fi ads in Tuesday or Friday papers sell items quickly and cheaply.
Due to Thanksgiving next Thursday both editions will publish a day early next week. Advertising copy for the Tuesday paper is due Monday and the Friday paper deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday November 26. Advertisers and correspondents urged to cooperate with early copy.
Lohn High defeated Millersview twice on Tuesday night with the girls winning 25 to 24 and the boys powering to a 69 to 27 victory.
The Brady Lions Club and Brady High School Future Farmers of America sponsor the annual fall Turkey Shoot. The event, planned for Sunday at 2 p m weather permitting, features large and small bore shooting turkey head shooting pistol target shooting and a shotgun shoot at Jubilee race track. A Winchester Model 70 .243 rifle will be awarded at the end.
Brady businessmen set an information center for Belton fans to visit Friday afternoon. The center opens between Euridpe Appliance Co and Vincent's Dry Goods on the south side of the square, offering free coffee and cookies from 4 to 7 pm. Brady citizens are invited to drop by and welcome the Belton fans.
Coach Ed Whiteley leads the Brady High boys as they play their first basketball game of the season Tuesday night at Menard.
Belton plans 600 to 700 supporters for Friday’s Brady visit. Weather is a key factor cited by officials. Belton has 600 adult and 300 student tickets issued. Local stores closing for the event and a potential special bus service are noted. Brady High cafeteria will serve from 6 p.m. to game time with student groups offering snacks. Belton visitors largely use the facility, but Brady fans may eat there as well.
Brady football supporters are asked to park Friday night on the new west parking lot near the stadium. If overflow occurs, they may use the vacant lot south of the stadium. Belton fans should use the band hall lot. Tickets should be bought at the west entrance for west grandstand seating.
N. C. Hicks of Laverne Oklahoma, brother of Brady resident C. M. Hicks, died Tuesday after a two year heart illness. He and his wife observed their 50th wedding anniversary last August 4. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Laverne with burial in Follett. Survived by his wife and two sons.
Mr and Mrs G A Newton of Sohn and Mr and Mrs Roy H Sallee with children of Ira attended the visit at the home of Mr and Mrs Guy Sallee last weekend. Mr Sallee is superintendent of the Ira schools and enjoyed the Brady Burnet football game.
