Porter 41 Dies in Brownwood Visit Heart Attack Claims Rochelle Native
Jack Marshall Porter 41 of Rochelle died of a heart attack early Friday in Brownwood while visiting his parents at 1610 Avenue A. He served in World War II, worked with Brady Aviation Corp in Brown and McCulloch counties, and was a Baptist and Mason. Survived by wife Lorene and four children, plus siblings, funeral held Saturday at Davis Morris Funeral Home Brownwood with relatives from Brady, Rochelle, Richland Springs, Eden, Ranger and Winters in attendance.

City Pool Opens Wednesday With Free Swim Classes
The city swimming pool opens Wednesday June 1 with free swim classes starting next Monday. Director K. Y. Owens notes enrollments can be made at the pool between now and then. Classes run in the mornings while open swim hours are 1 30 to 6 pm and 6 30 to 9 pm on weekdays and 1 30 to 6 pm on Sundays.

Mrs. F A Knox 71 Former Bradyite Dies at Stamford
Mrs. F A Knox, 71, former Brady school teacher and Bradyite, died Tuesday in a Stamford sanatorium. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Stamford with burial in Highland Cemetery. She moved from Brady in 1940 to live with her mother Mrs. Ella Stockton in Stamford. Her husband once ran the Knox Cafe in Brady and died earlier. She is survived by her mother, a son John R Knox of Alexandria Louisiana, and a half sister Mrs. Fannie Kelly of Albuquerque New Mexico.

Sheridan Newman Named Minister of Boerne Church
Sheridan Newman former Brady man and son of the late Judge F M Newman is chosen to become minister of the Episcopal church in Boerne. He has been studying at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley and will leave seminary to return to West Texas after ordination vows. He previously led Holy Trinity Mission Carrizo Springs and St Timothy’s Cotulla, and studied with Rev R E Dicus in Eagle Pass. Canonical examinations precede ordination, tentatively set for St Paul’s Brady. The Pacific school in Berkeley is one of ten Episcopal seminaries in the U S, founded in 1864 and moved to Berkeley in 1930.

Seminary Graduate Forms New Fredonia Pontotoc Church
The Rev. Earl L. Fort, a May 13 Southwestern Theological Seminary graduate, is organizing a Southern Baptist mission in the Fredonia Pontotoc area meeting in the old Fredonia Baptist Church. A survey will locate the building between Fredonia and Pontotoc with completion hoped by Christmas. The Brady First Baptist Church sponsors until organization. Fort, 34, 6 feet 6 inches, served in World War II and previously led pastorates at Mount Blanco and Finney. He and his wife, from Greeley Colorado, are house hunting in the area.
