Walter Gray Brady grocer was elected president of the Chamber of Commerce at a board meeting Tuesday afternoon, succeeding T. F. Ereckson. New 1955 56 officers include C. A. Reynolds first vice president R. W. Jordan second vice president and Jim Harkrider treasurer. The board will meet June 6 to set the year program and select committees.

First Women Called For Jury Duty Here
Fifteen women among 40 prospective jurors are summoned for 35th District Court next Monday. They are the first women called since Texans approved jury service for women last fall. Twelve jurors will hear a civil suit over damages from a Brady auto wreck dated June 29, 1951. Irene J. Bjornson of Wahpeton North Dakota sues Dallas Miller of Brady. Miller has filed a cross action.

Howard Payne College plans May 27 spring commencement with Rev. W LeRay Fowler of Brady First Baptist to receive an honorary Doctor of Divinity. Fellow honorees include Judge Few Brewster Texas Supreme Court Guy Newman president elect of Howard Payne Rev James Morgan of Fort Worth and Rev C W McCullough now Jamaica missionary. Fowler a Baylor and Southwestern Seminary graduate has 625 church additions including 250 baptisms since 1959 and helped build a new educational building in 1953. He serves on the Texas Baptists executive board and was named District 16 vice president this year. In early 1955 he joined a Jamaica evangelistic crusade.

He and employer Hubert Gilbreath will receive certificates at a Business and Professional Women's Club dinner at Roman's El Patio. Groves, active in church and civic affairs, lives with wife and three children at 1507 South High Street. Gilbreath, in Brady since 1934, has operated a grocery business for 10 years and now runs the store at 212-16 East Commerce Street. He and his wife live at 602 West 12th Street and have a daughter Georgan at Abilene Christian College.
