An editorial rails against Texans required to register as lobbyists, arguing the Texas Constitution protects the right to petition and speak to legislators without registration. It warns that mandatory registration could lead to denial of access and urges vigilance among Texans.

Donnie Campbell Tarleton State College coach addressed Brady High's basketball teams at a First Christian Church banquet. He praised their district co championships, stressed disciplined effort, and linked athletic habits to later life. Leonard Atherton, school board member, lauded the team's future.
Fort Worth banker Zoland Bratton will speak at the McCulloch County Retail Merchants Association annual meeting. The 7:30 p.m. event at the Country Club will be presided over by Walter Gray, RMA president. Bratton, a 44-year Fort Worth resident, has worked at Fort Worth National Bank since 1935 and now serves as assistant cashier after a long tenure in collection and loan departments.
The annual pre Easter revival at the First Methodist Church runs Sunday March 20 through Friday with Rev Ennis B Hill of San Angelo preaching. Morning coffee and doughnuts at 645 and services 7 to 745 am each weekday. evening services start at 730 pm.
Melvin Steers and the FFA and 4 H Club feeders showed steers at the Houston Fat Stock Show. Gale Wood's Angus calves placed 14th and 27th. his Hereford 29th in a 57 head class. Billy Turner’s Angus 21st. Hereford 43rd. Mary Helen Pratton’s Hereford 38th. Shirley Bratton’s 43rd in a 104 animal field.
Local moon-watchers reported a rare conjunction of Venus and the Moon on Wednesday night. The thin crescent appeared 20 days old with Venus near the moon’s north tip, creating a sight likened to a Christmas card. Mercury was not visible as expected.
Elene Corder, a Brady High junior, won the annual BAS singing contest sponsored by Korky Steffens. She performed In My Solitude to first place, ahead of runners up Velma Rickman and Pat Malone with The Wayward Wind and Treasure of Your Love.
The Deole Baptist Church will hold its annual spring revival from Sunday March 15 through Sunday March 22. Rev J B Everett will preach each evening at 7 30 and at 11 o clock Sunday services. The pastor invites everyone to attend.
Roger L. Wheeler, 42, of San Antonio, was named Tuesday night to be Brady's chamber of commerce manager. The board voted unanimously, selecting him as the No 1 applicant. Wheeler brings 12 years in chamber work and will start mid April with his wife Lucy and their 21 month old daughter Lisa joining after school ends. Wheeler previously served as assistant manager in Corpus Christi and Sherman and managed at Port Lavaca Ballinger and Del Rio. He helped lay groundwork for a Rio Grande dam project at Del Rio and later worked as an accountant for the Jourdanton school district.
Mr and Mrs John Valerius of Dallas welcomed a son named Lee Barton weighing eight pounds eleven ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs A T Barton and CoN Valerius of Shreveport. Mrs Valerius nicknamed Leska Sue Barton.
The Brady FFA Chapter postpones its annual father son barbecue from March 12 to Tuesday March 24. John Holcomb, former Brady ag teacher now in Austin, will speak.
The Kimble Menard Singing Convention meets at Hillcrest Captist Mission in Menard on Sunday March 15 starting at 2 30 p m with local participants expected to perform.
McCulloch County students gain a Friday holiday while teachers from the district attend the 52nd annual Mid-Texas Education Association convention in Brownwood. Ira Pearson presides. C A Reynolds serves on the state executive committee. the program features Sen. A M Aikin and Ruth Stout addressing educators.
The Rochelle Lions Club held its annual Charter Night banquet with District Governor Leonard Johnson of Alamo as guest and speaker. Don Johnson of Brady served as toastmaster. M A Gainer and Jim Boyd received 10 years of perfect attendance awards.
Sheryl Smith Joann Solsberg Nancy Hodges Cynthia Edwards and Haroene Heath are identified alongside Mrs Leon McMill and Dianne in a community roster highlighting local figures and volunteers.
