Evangelist Lockett Adair remembered in Brady reminiscence

The Brady area recalls evangelist Lockett Adair from a 1911 big tent visit. A six year old Jack Deaton, now recalling the event, reports Adair’s challenge asking Christians to stand, with the crowd laughing when the boy confessed he was Presbyterian. GABC To Meet Monday Night At Choral Room

The Girls' Athletic Booster Club schedules a March 10 7 p m gathering in the high school choral room moving from Tuesday to avoid a Coleman volleyball game. The group invites junior high parents to discuss sports for younger girls and pep squad uniform changes.

Brady election filings close with two ISD unopposed seats

No new political announcements were made as Brady city and Brady ISD filed by 5 p.m. Wednesday. ISD candidates for Positions 4 and 5 are Dr. Myron Mays and Dr. Merlin McAnelly, with incumbents Lamar Liefe ste and Patsy Quinn not seeking re election. City alderman races feature Steve Black versus Kadhrann Jones Hallmark for Place 3, Daymon McBee unopposed for Place 4, and Chad Colton challenging Kenneth Young for Place 5. Absentee voting begins March 17 for an April 5 election.

City Council First Reading Hikes General Telephone Rates

The City Council approved on first reading a rate adjustment ordinance for General Telephone of the Southwest, ranging from 35 cents to a dollar per service. Three readings are required for final passage. A quit claim from Kimbell Co. cleared land next to its North Bridge Street warehouse, the company offering the land near Brady Creek to the city free of charge. The quarter ending Dec 31 sales tax report showed 27,595 dollars, totaling 103,817 for 1974. A Soil Conservation Service meeting outlined erosion plans for Brady Lake discharge. A potential elderly and handicapped transport grant discussion noted it would be operated by a nonprofit. Floyd to attend a March 11 San Antonio meeting to advise on use of funds. James McVay resigned from the sanitary landfill. Curtis Metcalfe was hired. A power plant trainee became an operator with raises for others. The city learned it may receive a 10,700 dollar Manpower Program Title VI grant to hire previously unemployed for 30 days. wage scale from 2.10 to 4.18 per hour. One applicant has been deemed eligible.

27th Annual Band Festival Opens with A M Symphonic Band

The 27th Heart of Texas Band Festival begins Friday at 8 p.m. with the Texas A&M Symphonic Band directed by Capt. Joe McMullen. Fourteen bands compete Saturday in concert and sight reading contests, with Brady Bulldog Band led by James Mallow opening the day.

Hospital Honors L C Atherton with Retiring Party

Leonard C. Atherton the Brady Hospital and Clinic and Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital administrator was honored with a 2 p m Friday February 28 party by hospital staff and board members. A watch was presented for his years of service. Concert judges include Richard Crain Capt McMullen and Douglas Fry. Bands perform Friday and Saturday at the Brady gym with a social and rock hop for visitors.
