Brady's 5 percent fire insurance credit remains unchanged this year as Texas towns receive new rates from the Fire Insurance Division. The board lists credits up to 25 percent above or 15 percent below the basic rate, with Brady previously cut from 10 to 5 percent last year.
Burglars broke into the Trewitt Implement Company on the San Angelo highway Sunday night but left empty handed. The break in was found about 7 a.m. Monday. A back window was broken and the safe files and drawers rifled, yet pennies tires and small change were not taken. Sheriff Luke Vogel and Deputy Ona James investigated. A man and woman were suspected with footprints outside, including a boot heel and a small foot.
Infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy Williams of 1406 North Elizabeth Street died Tuesday morning in M&S Hospital. Born March 25, 1954 in Brady, the funeral is expected Wednesday with arrangements not yet complete at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Brady High School students vote Tuesday in runoff elections for Student Council officers. The ballots were delayed from last Friday to allow for preparation, with races for president vice president secretary and two cheerleaders on the ballot.
Scott King Winston Beoker and Mrs. Vernon Steward of Brady along with Earl Gatliff of San Saba were discharged from Brady Hospital on Friday.
Ewell Ray Teague Jr T M Butler Mason and Mrs Homer Crum of Llano were Brady Hospital patients from Saturday until Monday.
Mrs. Albert Neal was elected president of the Professional Nurses Club at Brady Hospital Nurses Home on Feb 22. Miss Jennie Marie Burns became vice president with Mrs. James Dale Carson as secretary, Mrs. Gene Samuelson treasurer, and Mrs. Bill Jack Smith reporter. Members from McCulloch and nearby counties were invited to a March 29 meeting at 7 50 PM.
Funeral services for Dr Joseph Edward Powell 87 a retired McCulloch County physician were held at First Baptist Church Brady with Rev W LeRay Fowler and Rev BE Scarborough officiating. Burial followed in Brady Cemetery. He was born February 14 1868 in Georgia and practiced medicine in Ballinger Waldrip Brady San Angelo and San Antonio where he later lived with his son Paul Powell. Survivors include son Paul Powell daughters Mary Bratton Edna Ramsey and Mary McQueen eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Hardin Jones spoke at Brady Cub Scouts blue and gold banquet in the First Christian Church praising scouting values. Assistant Cub master Leonard Atherton presented 61 advancement awards as dens of Pack 24 participated. Jones urged boys to seek friends in nature and to work through problems for happiness and growth.
Audie Capps called a Brady Pony League meeting of officers directors sponsors and team managers for Tuesday night March 8 at 7 30 p m in city hall. Others interested in the league welfare are invited to attend to finalize plans for the spring season opening.
Twenty six area school delegates spoke before a Texas Board of Education advisory committee in Austin Monday. They described drought caused enrollment declines and threatened vocational agriculture and homemaking classes. Delegates Melvin Ellington Zephyr Charles Bitters Harley Black Nolan Welch presented rainfall data FHA loans census declines and farm-family migration surveys in hopes of a solution.
Mrs Ada H Jung 59 of Rochelle died in Brady Hospital just after midnight Friday. Funeral held 2 p m Saturday at Rochelle Baptist Church with Rev J D Wallace officiating. Burial in Placid Cemetery. Survivors include two sons Rudolph H of Houston Wendell Ray Jung of Mexia a daughter Helen Jung Wagner of San Marcos three sisters and five brothers.
Mr and Mrs Marvin McLeod of Pontotoc celebrate the birth of a son at Brady Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Joe Medrano of Rockwood celebrate the birth of a son at Brady Hospital. Mrs A C Stewart spent Friday and Saturday in Brady Hospital.
Brady Junior High hosts two games Thursday night with BJH sixth grade boys facing their dads at 7 pm and the girls against their mothers in the second game. Deuce Turner referees with assistants Leonard Boyd and Joe Simpson. Principal Floyd notes the need for three referees. Ticket prices are 10 and 25 cents.
Mrs W H Slaughter 64 of Brady died Thursday in Brady Hospital. Funeral held at First Baptist Church with burial at Rest Haven. Born Ida Birdie Kirkland in 1890 in Lingleville Brat h County she lived at 605 North Cypress. Survived by husband Walter Jr and Richard. daughter Mrs Stewart Crawford. seven grandchildren. sisters Mrs Arthur Brown Mrs Wayne Goodgame Mrs C W Freeman. brothers O G A D Kirkland and Mack Kirkland.
A second producer, L. I. Smith No. 1 Robert Loveless, was completed in the McNeely oil field of northwest McCulloch County. Located in the 14-Allison Ogden Survey, 14% miles northeast of Salt Gap, it shows a daily potential of 24 barrels of 34 gravity oil with 80 percent water and a gas oil ratio of 1,000 to 1. Top of pay at 1,730 feet, tubing pressure 200 pounds, easing pressure 560 pounds. The Kamon No. 1 McNeely was completed July 24, 1954, for 54 barrels daily from 1,728 feet.
Trans-Texas Airways introduces a new Brady schedule with a morning Brady to San Antonio and a mid afternoon Dallas return. The plan aims to boost local passenger business after February saw only 17 travelers. TTA officials cite better connections to Houston and eastern points and assign staff to increase sales in Brady.
James S. Hobbs a Brady High graduate of 1945 and former local police member joined the city marshal race. Election is set for Tuesday April 5 with March 5 deadline to file. Other contenders include Golden Jones James Underwood George Puckett and Ainsley Thomas.
Abilene Christian College sophomore Jaryl Young of Brady is listed in the fall honor roll among ACC’s top ten students. Son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Young of 303 West 8th Brady he is a 1954 Brady High School graduate and a member of the college band Future Teachers of America and the French Club.
Holly E. B. Rees of the U S Department of Health Education and Welfare will speak March 2 in Brady at 7 30 p m in the district courtroom on the 1954 amendments to the Social Security Law. He addresses farmers ranchers and farm laborers and invites all interested persons to attend.
