Placid Stockfarmer Credits Silos With Drouth Survival
Charles A. Johnson of Placid credits three silos with sustaining his herd through a harsh drought. He stores ensilage from 14 acres of corn, using an ensilage harvester to refill the deep silos and maintaining 25 Hereford cows and 200 Rambouillet ewes on the feed. He notes silos cost less than barns, save twine, and reduce labor while preserving high quality feed for winter.
