Final Rites Held For Mrs Broad Widow Of Brady Merchant

Funeral services were held at 10 a m Thursday at Brady Presbyterian Church for Mrs Mary Gober Broad 65 widow of a Brady merchant. Rev Marshall S Pinkerton officiated and burial was in Brady Cemetery. She was found dead at her home 1202 South Elm about noon Tuesday by sister Mrs Dick Baker of San Angelo who came to take her to Temple. The doctor said death occurred between 9 30 p m Monday and midnight. Born January 14 1894 in Burleson Texas she was formerly Mary Brooks and married to the late H L Gober in 1914. They moved to Brady in 1927 where he partnered in Stevens Gober Company furniture hardware at the old Mann building Elm and East Commerce.

Grain Harvest Nearing Peak In Local Coop Tribune

A M Jones of the Farmers and Ranchers Co op says oats and wheat harvesting should peak this week if hot clear weather holds. The crop is of good quality but oats yield is slim while wheat yields run 10 to 12 bushels per acre. Last year large bumper crops brought many trucks and trailers to town. this season grain moves more easily by pickups and a few trailers.

Splash Day at Brady pool marks grand opening on Country Club grounds

Brady hosts Splash Day Sunday with a bathing beauty review MC'd by Korky Steffens. Local officials eye an aquatic team from San Antonio as the pool opens for free swimming after the program. The 100 by 36 foot pool sits on a hill overlooking Live Oak Creek and the golf course with a 10 foot depth and shallow end of 3 feet.

Brady School Board calls election to raise tax rate

The Brady School Board voted to call an election on Saturday June 27 at the courthouse to raise the school tax rate from 1.50 to as high as 2 per 100 valuation. The move follows budget gaps and rising costs with maintenance set at 1.50 and bond retirement at 0.50, while reforms consider valuational increases.

Water Mains to Be Flushed for Rust Saturday

City Supt. James Feazelle announces all city water mains will be flushed Saturday afternoon to remove rust and deposits from winter and spring. Water in the mains may appear discolored for a few hours but should clear up after flushing.

Big D Jamboree Slated For Brady Jubilee Night

Dallas based Big D Jamboree will perform at Brady High School stadium on Friday July 3 as part of the Jubilee. Admission costs 1 for adults and 60 cents for children under 12. Ed Watt praises the show mixing country and Western with light rock and roll. Notable acts include Eddie McDuff, the Belew Twins, Lonnie Smithson, The Country Gentlemen, the Light Crust Doughboys, and The Stump Jumpers.

Street Lights Out During Switch Replacement at Plant

Street lights are off in the south residential area while a switch gear from the power plant building is replaced. The old switch was removed during remodeling to add two new neiies, and the new equipment is delayed by shipment. North side lights and highway whiteway remain on other circuits.

Baseball Opens at Richards Park Monday Night

The Little League and Pony League start their seasons at Richards Park next Monday. Three Little League games begin at 6 20 p m with Rotary Club versus Sunshine Laundry, Co op versus Elliott s Magnolia Station, and Lions against IMCO Bombers. Pony League opener at 7 30 p m pairs Hill Country Creameries and Dodds Electric.

Hearts' Texas Supply Company to Open Monday

The Hearts Texas Supply Company new dealer for International Harvester will hold its formal opening next Monday near Brady on the San Angelo highway. Operated by Buford Sheffield Jr the former Woodard Truck and Tractor Company was sold before I Z Woodard's death. The firm will handle IH tractors trucks pickups farm implements tires and autos with a full service shop and in stock parts. Free coffee and doughnuts will be served all day.
