In Brady, W. Lee Pappy O'Daniel spoke from a red fire truck to about 200 locals on a hot Thursday. He praised Brady for providing Texas Rose, bowed to the band and family, teased opponents, and pitched a cash veteran bonus and higher old-age pensions while promising to clean house in Austin.

Ex County Agent Honored by USDA for Lifetime Service

James D. Precit former Mc Culloch County agricultural agent received the USDA Superior Service Award in Washington among 155 USDA employees honored for outstanding achievement. Now associate director of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, he led the 7 step Cotton Program and the Farm and Home Development unit approach. He helped establish the turkey industry in McCulloch County and led 4-H programs while advancing livestock feeding and range improvement.

Brady High FFA member nominated for Lone Star Farmer Degree

Danny Miller of Brady High School FFA is nominated to receive the Lone Star Farmer Degree at the Texas FFA convention in Dallas July 25 27. The top 2 percent award honors leaders with farm or ranching programs, two years vocational agriculture, and community prominence. Final selection occurs at the state convention.

UT Geology Students Arrive for Six Week Field Work

Thirty University of Texas geology students arrived this week to Brady Junior High dorms and meals at the high school, under management of Dr. Richard W. Rush and instructor Jack Walper. The program, in Brady for over 25 years, supports summer field studies with participants from numerous Texas cities including Gatesville Corpus Christi Elgin Wichita Falls and Dallas among others.

Summer Play Program Keeps Kids Busy This Season

The city runs a summer recreation plan drawing over 200 children into free swim classes led by K. Y. Owens with aides Jerry Sessom and Bill Turner. Adults may join a morning class, pool hours and admission listed, while Corky Pence runs tennis on Junior High School courts for 15 to 25 players and nine to twelve sessions daily. Story hour for primary children, directed by Cynthia Reynolds at South Ward School, runs 9 to 10 30 am with positive feedback.

Owens named Brady Heggh School assistant coach

K. Y. Owens will replace James Glenn as Brady High's assistant coach after the Brady School Board approved the hire. Owens is a Brady High graduate and son of Tony Owens, played full back and captain at H-SU, and led in a summer recreation program while teaching.

New Man Joins SCS Unit Here As Garrett Leaves

Mill Stephenson, a recent Texas A&M College graduate, joins the Brady Soil Conservation Service unit to replace Harold Garrett who resigns around July 1 to ranch with his father in Cross Plains. Stephenson, son of Mr and Mrs Nov Stephenson of Temple, grew up in Fort Worth Burleson and is a Burleson High School alum with a B S in range and forestry. He earned a U S Army Reserve commission and will report for active duty next April.

Brady Marines Head to Camp Pendleton for Summer Training

Eleven Marine reservists from Brady depart Saturday for two weeks of training at Camp Pendleton California. They will travel noon today, spend Saturday night in San Angelo, then fly from Goodfellow AFB to California. Night classes for typing and shorthand begin at South Ward

Adults enroll in six week courses at South Ward School. Ten students joined typing and six in shorthand taught by Mrs. James Bates with Supt. C. A. Reynolds noting openings remain. Shorthand sessions at 6:30 p.m. and typing at 3 p.m. run Mondays and Thursdays with tuition of 29.50 dollars.

Veteran Gregorio Vigil Reunites With Curtis Field Friends

Curtis Field receives a long awaited visit from Gregorio Vigil former Air Force medical detachment member during World War II now Santa Fe area educator. Vigil recalled his service at Curtis Field and praised Brady's hospitality. He later served in Europe and earned a master's at Highlands University before becoming superintendent of the Penasco schools. He is married with three children and was hosted by local friends including the Holts Fuentes and Ledezmas Al Bello family.
