Summer recreation program starts next Monday in Brady
Brady parents can enroll children in a broad summer recreation program including swimming story hour track and recreation golf classes and band. Swimming lessons are led by Forrest Hanson with instructors Diane King Kathryn Leach Jerry Atherton and Larry Low Doe. Sessions run at South Ward School and Brady High School beginning June 8 through four weeks with various age groups. Registration hours and tuition details are provided by program directors and instructors.

City Okays New Franchise for TV Cable
City Council approves a one year franchise with option to renew for ten years for TV Enterprises Ltd. Brady. The deal includes a 2 percent gross receipts tax a $1.50 annual pole rental and council review of future rate increases. The franchise is nonexclusive and books may be inspected. Also Richards Memorial Library receives $300 more, Loadcraft租 leases Hangar A, and staff changes include relief fireman hire and retirements.

20 Years Later Earl Rudder Returns to Pointe du Hoc
Earl Rudder, former Texas A&M president and Ranger commander, to join Gen. Bradley in France for the 20th anniversary of D-Day ceremonies. Accounts record Rudder leading the assault on Pointe du Hoc, his boat first to shore, heavy casualties, and multiple wounds. He later earned the Distinguished Service Cross and helped repel the Battle of the Bulge.

To Teach In Huntsville Robert Osborne Joins Elementary Staff
Robert Osborne of Huntsville, former Brady resident and 1954 high school graduate, will teach at Huntsville Elementary School this fall. He studied at the University of Texas and earned a BS from Sam Houston State College in January. Osborne has taught at Oakwilde Elementary in Aldine for a year and previously worked at Western Auto Store.

Hurst Man Forms Mining Firm in 1958 and Growth Milestones
W. O. Ferguson of Hurst Texas organized a closed mining company in 1958 with local civic leaders to mine process and market a specialized frac sand for oil wells. Tex-Star Oil and Gas Corp of Dallas later became major stockholder and moved offices to Dallas. The firm expanded capacity Brady mining operations, introduced pulverized sand in 1963, and acquired Heart of Texan Mining in 1962 making it a wholly owned subsidiary.

The pipe, made in Hillsboro by CertainTeed Products Corp, honors the new Brady plant. Charles Dicker shot a nine under par 62 at Brady Municipal Golf Course to set a new course record for the par 71 layout.
