Brady Plant Won't Be Forced to Convert to Coal

Supt Barry Adair reports good news from Wednesday. Railroad Commission order on natural gas use excludes Brady’s small plant. The rule requires 10 percent gas reduction in 1981 and 25 percent in 1985, but applies only to plants above 3 000 MCF per day, which Brady does not exceed.

Longtime Farmers & Ranchers Coop manager retires after 31 years

Tim Jones ends a 31 year tenure as manager of the Farmers & Ranchers Co-op effective Sept 1. Don Finn will succeed him, starting by Aug 1 after leaving Farm Bureau Insurance. Finn has prior elevator experience with the co op and Jones plans part time cattle and sheep farming at Menard.

Brady Independent School District hires eight staff, reshuffles

Brady ISD trustees met Monday night and hired eight teachers and school personnel. Darrell Head resigned as mathematics instructor at Brady High School, to return to Rankin. Kathryn Beasley fills Head vacancy. Virgil Beasley replaces Denton Lingle in industrial arts. Kim Mitchell assigned to Brady Junior High physical education. Jo Valliant reassigned to South Ward Elementary. Juanita Moffatt to first grade in China Eleven. Also added were Angelino Rubio as South Ward secretary, Wanda Burns as band secretary and cafeteria cashier, and Glenda Middleton as high school aide. A 20 cent per hour raise was given to non certified staff. coaches’ costs and lodging adjusted.

Pioneer Citizen of Brady Dies

Clarence Snider, 86, veteran Brady banker and civic leader, died Wednesday night at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. Born August 8, 1890 in Collin County, he moved to Brady at age two and organized the first Boy Scout troop. He received the 1957 Distinguished Service Award and served nine years as a scoutmaster. He was active in the Presbyterian Church and education work.

County Tax Rate Set For 1978 By County Commissioners

The County Commissioners approved a 1978 tax rate of $1.25 per hundred dollars, unchanged from 1977, with allocations: General 54 cents, Permanent Improvements 22, Special Road Ad Valorem Fund 30, Road and Bridge Special 15, Road and Bridge 1, and Jury Fund 3. The tax lists and Board of Equalization minutes were approved, detailing oil and industrial properties assessed at $2,328,790 by Thos. Y. Pickett and Co. of Dallas. Bush is listed in the tax roll.
