Local Optometrist Dr. J W Ragsdale Retires After 57 Years
Brady’s longtime optometrist Dr. J W Ragsdale retired July 1 after fitting the first glasses in 1914. He served in World War I, opened his Brady office in 1919, and became a key figure in local civic life. Dr. Lane will take over his records and practice.

Oklahoma study team to visit Brady on courthouse square
A three member University of Oklahoma team will visit Brady July 7 to 9 to study the courthouse square as the focal point of town life. They will map the area, photograph the square, speak with businessmen and officials, and collect historical records for insights into central square towns.

Gibson's Opens Last of July in Brady
Kerrville couple Mr and Mrs Morris Harris owners of Gibson's Discount Store say the Brady location will open in the latter part of July. Harold Craver, new Brady manager, moved from Kerrville to help ready the store with about 15 local employees.

July Jubilee Set With Parades Races And Pageant
Readiness is high for the 44th annual July Jubilee July 3 4 5 with Miss Heart O Texas pageant Friday night at 8 30 at G Rollie White Downs and three days of horse racing at 2 pm plus a Richards Park carnival. Governors congressmen music and dignitaries will lead a downtown parade Saturday at 10 am with out of town floats and local entries. Futurity and Derby races offer about 14000 and 2000 purses respectively. My Margo and Don Albert lead trials for Futurity and Derby amid a crowd ready for Independence Day reunions.

Pond At Park Refilled From City Water Source
Richards Park pond was filled by releasing water from Brady Lake after City Council approval. The valve opened Tuesday afternoon and again Wednesday morning, requiring about 23 million gallons and lowering the lake level roughly two inches. Anglers noticed improved fishing.
County Gets More Relief From Ag Dept
Congressman Omar Burleson announced that McCulloch County is among 18 counties offered emergency conservation assistance by the U S Department of Agriculture to repair drought and wind erosion damage. Mason and Concho Counties are included. An allocation of 360000 is set for the Texas ASC state committee to share with farmers the cost of wells pipelines and other water and grazing facilities. This brings 1971 allocations to 6810000 to combat drought. Emergency conservation assistance aims to alleviate natural disaster effects and restore agricultural lands.
