The board may implement a more realistic plan to reward careful drivers, though criticisms of its regulations persist. Rex Van returns as director of a Brady Lions Club Variety Show at Brady High School on February 15 and 16. Korky Steffens assists. Hilma Stockstill and David Groves are piano accompanists. Rehearsals run Tuesday and Thursday at 7 PM. about 49 people attended opening rehearsal with more needed for the production's ambitions.
York commends the mothers and fathers of the Ol Houn' Dawgs for their role in a successful season. About 50 to 60 attendees at the BHS cafeteria heard praise for home coaching and volunteer support. The Dawgs plan a chili supper after basketball season ends February 12 and will vote by mail on the 1959 best back and best lineman.
McCulloch County launches March of Dimes drive under Mrs Carmen Canyus. Beta Sigma Phi hosts a bridge party January 22 at Brady Country Club with tickets at 1. The Talent Show January 29 at Brady High School auditorium begins 7 39 p.m. with Korky Steffens as MC. Door prize is a portable stereo. Mothers March led by Mrs J P Anderson and Mrs B A Hallam Jr on January 25.
Jack Weaver of Melvin High School enters three lambs in the Junior Fat Lamb Show at the 1960 Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo. The 28th annual exposition runs February 24 through March 6.
Four door prizes will be awarded to donors during next week's Red Cross Bloodmobile visit. Commercial National Bank and Brady National Bank each offer five silver dollars, R A McShan provides a ham, and W B Lawrences Sinclair Station offers a free oil change and grease job. The Bloodmobile comes to Fellowship Hall First Christian Church on Wednesday Jan 20 from 10 am to 4 pm. Seventy pints of blood are needed amid the flu epidemic, and Beta Sigma Phi sorority members aim to recruit donors three per person for the event.
A San Angelo motorist wrote a letter praising Officer Wallace Bode after being stopped near the city limits while en route to Austin. He admitted speeding and pleaded guilty, noting the officer was friendly and courteous in handling the citation.
The McCulloch County Commercial Feeding Program for 4-H and FFA boys continues with a weigh-in Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Heart O' Texas Commission Company. Fifty-one entries, totaling 99 head of livestock, were present at the first weigh-in last October, and this session invites new participants for short-term feeding operations.
The Brady Garden Club and Dunbar School students will plant a mimosa tree at 3 p.m. Friday during Arbor Day ceremonies at Willie Washington Park.
Earl Rudder will be inaugurated as the 11th president of Texas A&M College on March 26 at 10 45 a m in G Rollie White Coliseum. LSU President Dr Troy Middleton will deliver the inaugural address with cadet corps review in the morning and luncheon and reception later. Rudder, born in Eden, former Brady mayor, was named A&M president on July 1 1959 after serving as vice president since Feb 1 1958. He and Mrs Rudder have five children.
A banquet accompanies the annual Boys Ranch of West Texas board meeting in San Angelo on Saturday night January 23. Tickets are available from local director H. D. Winters. Brady and McCulloch County residents expect to attend.
The Brady Bulldog Band will perform a new march Sounding Brass by Everett Maxwell at a Sunday 2 pm winter concert in the Brady High auditorium. Maxwell, then Andrews High School director, drafted the piece after Brady inspiration and dedicated it to the Brady festival. Tickets are available from students or at the door.
The Melvin Chapter of Future Farmers will hold its 18th annual Fat Stock Show Friday afternoon January 22 at 3 o'clock. Only fat lambs will be shown as calves are not available. Pigs may be added later. Five lambs are entered. eligible participants include Melvin FFA and Melvin 4-H Club members.
The Kimble and Menard County Singing Convention will gather Sunday January 17 at Hill Crest Baptist Church in Menard starting at 2 p m. The event invites local singers to participate in the afternoon program.
Brady's Freese and Nichols of Fort Worth requested a new topographic map of Brady Creek. W. L. Eeds said the State Board of Water Engineers and the U S Geological Survey began a cooperative mapping program two years ago, with Brady Creek as a target as part of statewide efforts to produce finer, larger scale maps.
Brady High meets Gatesville Hornets in Gatesville Friday to start the District 17-AA race. The Bulldogs and Pupettes travel to San Saba Tuesday and then host Lampasas in Brady on Friday January 22.
