The Brady Texas city council voices concern that arrests of Latin American workers for driving without licenses may worsen conditions. A December report shows 62 Latin Americans fined for no license and three for running stop signs, with 84 fined in November. The council also approves a new water well site purchase and discusses a 44 hour work week for city employees.
Brady police report two radio receivers and transmitters were stolen from the National Guard Armory between December 20 and January 1 and later returned Tuesday night. The items, valued at more than $500, were left in front of Warrant Officer Truman Lee’s home. An investigation by local police and the FBI is underway since the property is government owned.
Mr. Thomas Taylor president of Howard Payne College will speak at the First Baptist Church for both services while the pastor is away on a Jamaica revival crusade. Taylor has led the college since 1929 and was voted Man of the Year during the homecoming. He is listed in Who's Who in America. The pastor Rev. W LeRay Fowler plans to return Jan 13 and resume pulpit duties the next Sunday.
The Cham ber of Commerce runs a spring feeding program for 4 H and FFA youth. At 9:30 Saturday boys weigh lambs and calves at the Heart of Texas Commission Co Brady. H D Griffith will grade and appraise. In October 34 boys entered the program. girls are eligible but none listed now. An educational trip for feeders will occur this spring.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Johnson returned from Washington D C where they spent Christmas and New Year as guests of Col and Mrs George Adkins and family. Col Adkins serves in the U S Air Force. They were accompanied by Mrs Pete Newman who then went to Norfolk to visit her daughter Mrs Jack Thaxton and family. Thaxton is in the Navy.

Brady honors Marvin Sellman as champion fireman of 1954 for top attendance with 26 drills 16 fires and 12 business meetings. He missed one of 54 roll calls while W B Lawrence and Johnny Moran placed second and third with minimal absences. Prizes were 7.50 5.00 and 2.50 from the Fire Department.
Burglars hit M. A. Gainer’s store in Rochelle between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. taking 12 cartons of cigars, $15, and nine pocket knives after entering the front door and failing to open the safe. At Richland Springs, about $10 was taken from the school and a nightwatchman’s auto was stolen and found abandoned later. Brady hospital welcomed a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lupe Suarez Wednesday.
Earl Rudder was sworn in as Texas General Land Office commissioner in Austin with his wife and two children present. Gov. Shivers appointed Rudder to fill the vacancy left by Bascom Giles, saying he is the type of young man needed in public life. Rudder, 44, former Brady mayor and Texas A M graduate, will serve a two year term with a $6 000 yearly salary.
Brady's National Guard unit Co. C 142nd Infantry will receive the Silver Certificate Monday night for an outstanding 12 month record. Capt Arthur H Hammett from Brownwood will make the presentation. Five companies in the First Battalion receive the award giving the battalion the state's highest training rating. Co C commander Narvel Rodgers leads 76 enlisted men and five officers. A new armory on Brady’s north side is under construction and due for completion in March.
C. W. Thompson was re-elected Rochelle School superintendent by the Board of Trustees on Monday night. It will be Thompson's third year at Rochelle.
Mr and Mrs Troy Sorreils of Mason celebrate the birth of their two sons at Brady Hospital on Wednesday.
Brady reports 1954 insured loss only five dollars for contents and total property loss of 2794.65, compared with 1953 loss of 39621.87. Fire Chief Howard Salter notes the town may gain fire insurance credits up to 25 percent and explains state rate adjustments based on yearly fire records.
Golden Jones a Brady police officer for three years announced this week his candidacy for city marshal. He is the first candidate in the new political season. Brady will also elect three aldermen on the first Tuesday in April and two trustees for the Brady Independent School District on the first Saturday in April.
Postal receipts at Brady Post Office rose to 51 271 28 last year up 622 96 from 1953 50 648 32. Christmas business fell with December receipts 6 697 63 down 1 113 49 from December 1953 7 811 12.
A 7:30 p m meeting at the McCulloch County Electric Co op Building will explain Blue Cross Group cancer coverage through the County Farm Bureau. Arthur Scharlach, Blue Cross rep, says eligibility requires Farm Bureau membership, good health, and employment where fewer than five workers are employed.
