The 31st Brady Relays will be held in two divisions based on enrollment. Division one includes schools with 320 and under, division two covers 321 and over. The meet will take place as a daytime affair this season.
The 31st annual Brady Relays will be split into Division I for schools over 320 enrollment and Division II for 320 and under. Action starts Saturday morning at Brady track with field events at 9 a.m. and finals at 2 p.m. The meet, first held in 1937, features sprint relays and a sprint medley as top teams compete under IIL rules. Brady, led by coach Del Wilson, seeks wins from entrants like Robert Lee and Brownwood, with defending standout Willie Jones highlighted from last year’s competition.
Brady’s guard David Neal earned unanimous All-District 9-AA honors as part of a four player unanimous selection. Neal led the Bulldogs to a 7-3 district record, with teammates Sam Murray Tom Epperson Elvin Randell also chosen. Burnet’s Jessie Crow made the mythical first team, while Donald Kiesling and others earned second or honorable mention. San Saba won the playoff to reach bi district, then fell to Waco Midway.
Brady High School senior Hays Beam Jr of Brady is named a member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers after earning the national test credential at the Texas Tech Summer Band School. He plays percussion in the Brady Bulldog Band and completed the 26 Standard Rudiments of Drumming.
Two Bradyites, Mr and Mrs Richard G Slaughter, were taken to Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio with serious injuries after a two car crash on US 87 twelve miles south of Mason on the Llano River bridge. Laird R Valentine, 18, of Hurst, driving the other vehicle, was killed at the scene. Sharon Valentine Gidge of Del Rio, sister of the driver, and a 20 month old son were hospitalized at Lackland AFB in San Antonio with injuries. Two other children had minor injuries. A helicopter evacuated victims from the scene.
The article notes three city alderman candidate slots and one school trustee position with March 1 as filing deadline. Incumbents Moore King Kidd and McCollum hold seats. Dodds Neal McBee Johnson filed for various places. Voter registration totals and rules are update, with March 1 deadlines for city and school elections and May 6 for primaries.
Five new directors were recently elected to the Brady Chamber of Commerce. The new directors will meet with the holdover directors at the next meeting of the CC. New directors named by local Chamber members are Charles Darley, Don Freeman, Bill Jeffries, W. E. Beekie Lohn Jr., and Carl Schoene wolf.
The first day to submit a mail ballot request for the Democratic primary is March 8. Absentee voting by personal appearance begins April 16 at the County Clerk's office.
Tom Miller son of Mr and Mrs Milt Miller of Brady leaves for Chisagata Nagano Japan to advise a cattle feeding operation and oversee a cowboy school at Suehiro Highland Lodge. The program teaches eight to sixteen year olds ranching basics and runs for a year with up to 800 students a semester. The ranch owner is N Isihara a Tokyo restaurateur. Miller holds a BS in Animal Science from Northwestern Missouri State University.
