Brady High School varsity golf team heads to Bastrop for an 18 hole Bastrop High School Invitational on Lost Pines Course in two divisions. This is Brady’s first tournament as they host their own invitational next week. Players Ferdie Slocum John Tittle David Roddie Mark Jones and Mike Hughes travel with Coach Paul Huntington who seeks early tournament experience for the team.
Senior guard Gary Scott topped Brady Bulldogs in 1974 75 with 378 points in 25 games 15.3 ppg while the team went 11 14 and tied for second in District 24 AA. Freshman Ira Routt added 12.7 ppg and Chris Jones 10.3 ppg in limited games.
Brady Jaycees and their wives joined the Comanche organization for a regional meeting. Speakers Bax ter Featherston of Wichita Falls and Tracy Keeper of San Marcos addressed the group. Brady won both participation and travel awards. Gary Graham took the speak-up award. Attending Jaycees came from San Marcos Brownwood Granbury and Boomtown with Brady members listed.
Brady City Council and General Telephone Co reached a rate increase agreement with base rates up 72 percent rounded to the nearest nickel. The plan excludes rural and long distance charges under city jurisdiction and requires an ordinance before taking effect. Estimated boosts range from 35 to 85 cents per line depending on service type, with installation and service charges debated. A roof repair bid for City Hall was awarded to Ralph Neal, contingent on proof of insurance, and landfill hours will shift to 8 am to 5 pm weekdays with posted signage.
A 36 year old Killeen man William Mathis died when he slipped beneath a moving tractor trailer on US Highway 190 sixteen miles east of Brady. He was retrieving fuel valve equipment while his partner Michael Quintana of Killeen steered the vehicle. Funeral arrangements in Bartlett.
Sixty five of 83 Brady Bulldog Band members earned Division I medals at the UIL Solo and Ensemble contests hosted by Howard Payne University in Brownwood. About 40 schools participated with 20 solo medals and 11 ensemble ratings going to Brady performers across woodwind, brass, percussion and vocal groups.
McCulloch 4-H members sell livestock in the premium sale at the San Antonio Stock Show. Barry and Janie Deans and Calvin and Irby McWilliams exhibited in barrow divisions with reserve champion and multiple prize placements. Calvin and Irby sold lambs placed in the prize winning sale. Several 4-H members prepare for Houston and San Angelo shows.
Mrs. W. Travis Moore of Brady died at 6 30 p m Wednesday in Shannon Hospital San Angelo after a six weeks illness Funeral services were pending at Wilkerson Funeral Home as The Standard went to press Thursday morning
Registration for the Pee Wee Basketball League will be held at 6 30 p m Monday in Bulldog gym. Coach Charles Alderson says the program includes boys in the fourth through sixth grades.
Texas resumes daylight savings time this weekend moving clocks forward one hour. Set clocks Saturday night or at 2 a.m. Sunday to avoid being late. The switch follows a four month return to standard time and aims to extend daylight in the evening hours.
