Two new county officials will be sworn in at 10 a m Saturday in the county courthouse courtroom. Sheriff-elect Bill Strickland and County Attorney-elect Gerald Johnson take the oath for the first time. Returning officials include Commissioner Pet 1 Paul Willis Commissioner Pet 3 Zane Carroll and Tax Assessor-Collector Vernon Waddill Jr. The ceremony is presided by County Judge Floyd Marshall who was sworn in last month.
James Mallow's Famed Brady Bulldog Band earned its 11th consecutive Sweepstakes Award at the University Interscholastic League contest. The Heart of Texas group remains a Division I standout among 39 schools, with five schools winning the top trophy.
C B Groves will retire as City Secretary of Brady after 17 years at year end. He recalled a rural upbringing in West Texas and a career spanning Matador, Wheeler, Dumas, and Brady. Groves plans rock polishing as a hobby and says retirement means time with family and friends.
Haskell Archer 67 of Kerrville died Tuesday in San Antonio Community Hospital after a long illness. Graveside services 10:30 a m Friday at Turtle Creek Cemetery under Kerrville Funeral Home. Lifelong Kerr County resident, retired contractor, former Brady Turks baseball team member. Survivors include son Wayne Burton Archer San Antonio daughter Mrs Anthony Webb Kerrville sister Mrs Ralph Bishop Center Point brother Charles A Archer Great Falls Mont four grandchildren. Christmas visit in Grand Junction Colorado with Mr and Mrs Fred Babel Garnet Elizabeth Rory Hagler Carol Johnson Allie Kelli Allison Roddie.

In a special session Brady City Council accepted S. L. McAllister of Pittsburg Texas bid of 276710 for repairing the stilling basin below the drawdown tube at Brady Lake. Other bids were 320818 from Abilene Paving Co and 349675 from Seidel Inc. The project is a joint venture with the Soil Conservation Service with the city paying 35.03 percent. Work requires lake level to drop eight to ten feet and must be completed within 225 days after notice to proceed.
