The Brady School District will conduct its annual census of children aged 6 to 17 during January. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tabor Holiday will carry out the census. Supt. C A Reynolds urges cooperation and asks residents to answer the doorbell, noting census takers are not peddlers.
Twenty families with 99 children received Christmas baskets of food and toys from Brady churches civic clubs and individuals. County welfare workers Mrs Elizabeth Hughes and Miss Arvie Wegner coordinated lists of needy families and local groups assembled the gifts. A mother cried with joy as a Basket delivery underscored Santa Claus generosity.
The board appointed George Purcell of Brady to act as temporary manager of the Chamber of Commerce. Purcell will take over January 1 while a new manager is sought, with Roger Wheeler resigning effective January 15. Purcell, a retired feed salesman, has long been active in civic work.

Jeonard Skaggs of San Saba 71 a former Brady pharmacist died Tuesday in San Saba Memorial Hospital. He operated a Brady drug store about ten years until 1946 later known as Brady Drug under Dr A W Hinchman. He was active in Rotary. born May 27 1889 in Burnet County. married Mina Moore April 10 1910 in Temple. she died 1959. Funeral 11 a m Wednesday Howel Doran Chapel burial Hillcrest Temple. Survived by daughter Nell S Glasscock Auburn Alabama and sister Miss Eleanor Skaggs Houston.
A new Boy Scout troop will be organized Tuesday night at the Scout Lodge. Boys at least 11 years old interested in joining are invited to attend the 7 p.m. meeting. Joe Sanchez will be the scout master and the troop is sponsored by the Catholic Church.

McCulloch County beef cattle producers are urged to attend a meeting next Tuesday night at 7 30 at the McCulloch County Electric Co op building to hear how the brucellosis testing program will operate Dr Jim Henderson of Coleman representing the Texas Animal Health Commission will outline the program and answer questions County Agent Jimmy Casenbary said the meeting will provide answers to what the commission expects of cattle producers and what the producers can expect of the commission
The Federal Land Bank of Houston board approved a 0.5 percentage point rate reduction on new loans starting Jan 1 bringing the rate to 5 percent. The cut also applies to about 24 million in existing loans at 6 percent, marking the bank’s third voluntary rate reduction. The bank funds loans via bonds to the investing public and operates through 73 associations in Texas with over 235 million in loans. In Brady area, the Federal Land Bank Association serves Concho, Menard, McCulloch and San Saba counties with 962 loans totaling about 7.5 million.
