Five donors appear at the Bloodmobile led by Hugh Cox who reached six gallons. The Rev. Robert Graham two others and several more reached multiple donations. The drive gathered 75 pints toward a 100 unit goal as volunteers thanked donors and merchants for prizes.
The Breck home at 1211 South Blackburn won first prize in Brady Chamber of Commerce Christmas decoration contest. A secret panel judged the nativity scene and lights as best. Second prize went to Annie Bourland at 202 West Chase and third to Ernat Otte at 201 West 17th. Eleven homes entered and honorable mentions went to A E F Sanders and Rubyn Martin and D L Wheeler.
Funeral services for G. C. Grover Kirk former Brady mayor were held at First Christian Church at 3:30 p.m. Thursday conducted by Rev. Pill Boswell. Burial followed at Live Oak Cemetery. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Clinic Hospital San Angelo. Born February 18 1886 in Georgietown he lived in Brady since 1903 and ran a local business for over 25 years. Survivors include his wife two brothers S L Kirk San Saba and R L Kirk Breckenridge and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Brady men plus Crawford Winfrey of Llano.
Brady City Council set a January 23 special election to adopt a 1% local sales tax as 134 Texas cities join the move. City Supt. Feazelle cited rising municipal costs and promised more information soon. Clint Newlin reported park work including a 48 by 146 dock, a 32 by 125 metal building, and phased shelter plans. The council also appointed Sam McCollum III city attorney and accepted Fire Chief Joe McAnally's resignation, with L J Armstrong named acting head and band funds allocated.
The Brady Standard staff members extend seasonal wishes for wisdom strength and peace. They thank readers for patronage and friendship and wish a very merry Christmas from L. B. Smith Vivian Smith Jym Tittle Ruby Bratt Raymond Rubio and Frank Garza.
The Brady Herald lists C D Slick Reed Mrs Dorothy Reed Larry GB Smith Mrs Lupe Rubio Norman Chew and Lorenzo Rubio as individuals featured in a local naming notice.
Rainfall for the year so far exceeds the normal 25.01 inches in McCulloch County, with 27.30 inches recorded through November by Mrs. J R Cochran US Weather observer. May and September totals top 5 inches, and only January had less than a trace.
The Brady Bulldogs complete the 1968 grid schedule with Kermit for October 18, a one year contract giving Brady 50 percent of the gate or $1500 minimum. Brady Bulldogs return from a week off to host Lampasas Badgers after a 69-61 win in their earlier meeting. Weather canceled the Stamford Tournament. Brady sits at 5 1 on the season. B game starts 6 15 p m and A game at 8 p m.
Ed Penn 75 longtime McCulloch County resident died Tuesday at Brady Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fourth and Pridge Street Church of Christ conducted by Henry McBroom. Burial Cox Cemetery near Mercury. Born Oct 3 1892 he married Lottie Sansom in 1914 and was a retired stock farmer. Survived by son Herbert E. Penn of Brady daughter Thelma Reynolds of Brownwood and five brothers Elvie Cecil Jodie Colbert Penn all of Brownwood and William Penn of California.
Oscar Strickland, 81, Brady resident, was burned taking a bath and is improving at Brady Hospital where he was taken Monday night. Gene Townsend and his wife cared for him. he fainted while drawing hot water and the extent of burns should be known in about three weeks. he is the brother of Mrs. Townsend.
