Brady meets District 21-AA champion Giddings Buffaloes in Killeen at 8 p.m. as the winner advances toward the state semifinals. Key Brady players missed practice with flu as coach Chuck York notes Frosch Crow pairing and Buffaloes' late-season surge.
Intercontinental Manufacturing Company gains a contract for maintenance modification and flight testing of two place H-2 helicopters at its Brady plant near Garland Texas. Officials Arnold Erlanger and Ray Shape announce the award and plan expansion of the Brady maintenance and modification division.
L E Levinson told the City Council that after one deed change the Civil Aeronautics Administration will lift its building restrictions at Curtis Field, allowing IMCO to buy the property. IMCO would expand Hangar No 1 operations and add a maintenance shop and T-hangars, with the city retaining control if IMCO fails to replace private fliers’ hangars. Hangars 4 and six smaller buildings are also under CAA limits.
Southwestern States Telephone Company trimmed its Brady rate increase from 100 percent to about 60 percent in a City Council presentation. The plan would raise business and residence rates, boosting annual Brady revenue to 102 873 dollars. The council has not decided.
An eight year old girl, Debbie Key, daughter of Mr and Mrs E C Key formerly of Brady now in Greenville, died Tuesday night in a Houston hospital after an open heart operation begun Monday. She had been a cardiac patient since birth and appeared to be recovering before her death.
Six gum ball machines sponsored by the Brady Lions Club were stolen from in front of J C Penney Broad Mercantile and several service stations. The operator offers a $25 reward for arrests. Lions officials note profits fund aid to crippled and underprivileged children.
Dwight McDaniel, a highway patrolman in the Austin district since 1949, is reassigned to Brady as partner to CG J. Matthews who has patrolled Brady alone for 15 months. The McDaniels moved to 610 Poplar Dr. last week and settled into Brady duties over the weekend. McDaniel grew up in Algerita and San Saba with parents Mr. and Mrs. Denis McDaniel. Mrs. McDaniel's roots trace to Richland Springs and Marilyn Cawyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Cawyer of Brownwood.
Mrs. Joe Miller of Corpus Christi visits Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Branscum as Mrs. Branscum recovers from surgery performed last Thursday.
Trad y fans traveling by bus or auto are asked to meet outside Killeen Friday night and parade into town as a caravan. The gathering begins around 6 45 p m with flashlights signaling drivers at the rendezvous point. A stadium parking lot is reserved with a 25 cent fee.
George Johanson was chosen as the year's top supervisor for the San Saba Brady Soil Conservation District. He receives a $60 cash award from six area banks and becomes eligible for regional and state awards. Hardin Jones presented the honor at the SCS office, noting Johanson's work on his East Sweden farm and as district supervisor.
McCulloch County asks residents to raise 316 dollars as part of a 5 million dollar Hungarian relief drive. The Red Cross feeds 150,000 refugees in Budapest and 5,000 more in Austria. President Eisenhower urges Americans to support the disaster relief effort for Hungary and its refugees. Brady churches will collect, with gifts also accepted at the Brady Standard Office and Red Cross in City Hall.
Edwin R. Wheeler, 67, of Brady, died in a Galveston hospital at 6 30 p m Tuesday after more than a year there. He is survived by a daughter in Houston and a brother W Wheeler of Brady. No funeral arrangements had been made.
Fourteen teams from seven schools entered the John Invitation Basketball Tournament in Lohn this weekend. games run Thursday through Saturday with finals at 6 pm Saturday. Participants include Millersview Rochelle Brady Paint Rock Melvin Richland Springs and Sohn.
More than 1,300 tickets sold for Brady vs Giddings in Killeen for the Class AA playoff quarterfinal Friday at 8 pm. Adult tickets 1.50, students 0.50, gate price 1.50. standing room in Killeen allowed. Brady buses and school buses transport about 600 fans. Killeen provides 4,100 seat stadium, officials, gatekeepers and police.
Rochelle sends two school buses loaded with students to Killeen to cheer for Brady as the Bulldogs meet the Giddings Buffalos Friday night. Fifty five student tickets were issued and Rochelle buses join the caravan as Brady buses pass Rochelle Friday afternoon.
Mayor A Harkrider issued a proclamation asking Brady stores to close at 4 50 p m Friday so owners and their employer may attend the Brady Giddings game in Killeen.
Denver visitors Mr. and Mrs. Joe Canaday traveled to Brady to spend Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Gene Burns before continuing to Houston. Canaday, a former U S Navy recruiter stationed in Brady in 1947-48, is noted in the piece. Herringtons hosted their daughters Mrs. Lona Jackson Bandera and Mrs. George Morgan Cleburne who came after Mrs. Herrington suffered a mild heart attack. Jackson left after a brief stay while Morgan remained for a longer visit.
