Texas probes veterans land program and public bids
Attorney General John Ben Shepperd leads a multi agency probe into a hundred million dollar veterans land program amid reports veterans in Cuero signed up for free land but paid nothing. The audit and DeWitt County Attorney Wiley Cheatham call it a rotten mess as appraisals are reviewed. Another probe targets identical bids for Austin capitol underground electrical supplies totaling 32122.80 by four firms.

Farmers Must Plan Efficiently to Meet Gan in Income
Texas farmers should boost planning and efficiency in 1955 to offset lower income from reduced acreage, weather, and higher costs. C H Bates says net income lags 1953, with profits down about six percent, urging soil improvement and stronger feed reserves, plus better farm records starting January 1.
