102 Year Old Woman From Mercury Dies

Mrs. Sidney Elizabeth Berry of Mercury died at 2 10 a m in Medical and Surgical Hospital. Born October 10 1859 in Indiana she was 102. She lived in McCulloch County 58 years and leaves six daughters 14 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p m Thursday at the Baptist Church in Mercury.

Nancy Duncan Wins District 7 4-H Record Book Award

Nancy Duncan of Brady is named District 7 winner in the Santa Fe awards contest. The district record book has been sent to College Station for state judging on Sept. 13-14, as announced by District Agent Miss Thelma Casey.

Rochelle Girl Is Queen of Farm Bureau

Lynda Spiller Smith a 16 year old Rochelle High School junior was named queen of the McCulloch County Farm Bureau in a Tuesday night ceremony at Brady Municipal Golf Course clubhouse. She will represent the county in the district Farm Bureau queen contest in Cisco Saturday.

Mrs. Lewallen Dies in Brady Hospital at 76

Mrs. J. F. E. Lewallen 76 of 1695 South Bradley Brady died at 7 45 am Wednesday in Brady Hospital. Born February 15 1886 in Georgia she lived in Brady 18 years. Survived by three sons a daughter a sister five brothers and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery after a service at Wilkerson Chapel conducted by two pastors.

Calf Creek Homecoming Scheduled for Sept 2

The Calf Creek Homecoming will be held Sunday September 2 at the community center. Residents and former residents are invited to attend an all day session with W R Duncan president and Mrs Duncan secretary. Ted Kiser of London will be master of ceremonies. Deck R J of Pear Valley was elected president of the McCullouch County Electric Co op as new board convened. Sheral Colburn of San Saba was named vice president and David Dahlberg of Brady was reelected secretary treasurer succeeding W E Hardin of Voca who retired after six terms on the board.

Airman Nathan Dannheim Completes Training, Enrolls in Jet Mechanics

Nathan Dannheim son of the Rev and Mrs E E Dannheim has finished basic training at Lackland AFB and has been promoted to Airman Third Class He now attends Amarillo AFB for 15 weeks of special jet mechanics training, after attending Brady High School.

Mason Pastor Preaching Here

The Rev. Perry Wallace of Mason’s First Baptist Church preaches a revival at Central Baptist Church in Brady this week with 8 p.m. services nightly and a Sunday finish. Morning services run Monday to Friday with theme from James and the Cross in the evening. About ninety students are expected in Sunday School and at least 48 in Training Union. The Rev. Arlie Fielding extends a cordial welcome.

Riders to Award Buckles Monday at Jubilee Arena

Heart O' Texas Riders conclude their points awards with a Monday night meeting at 8 at the Jubilee arena. Twelve buckles will be awarded across four main events and one for the all around winner as teen members return to school. Plans include a future roping contest in September and roping Sundays 2 to 6. Sixty members and 40 horses joined this week's play night featuring barrel racing and pole bending.

Snider Undergoes Eye Surgery in Houston

Clarence Snider vice president of the Brady National Bank underwent a three and a half hour detached retina operation in Houston Wednesday morning. Doctors said he did well after surgery and had a good night. He is staying at Methodist Hospital Room 453-B Houston Texas and may receive letters but not flowers.

City and County Plan Dredging at Brady Creek Richards Park

City Council and County Commissioners Court agreed Wednesday to begin work next week to clean silt behind the dam in Brady Creek at Richards Park. Weather permitting, crews will move machinery to the park next Wednesday. Officials viewed the creek, now nearly dry after this summer's drought.
