Water and fertilizer aid shade trees in dry seasons
Shade trees weakened by another dry summer benefit from water and fertilizer. Build a circular four inch deep basin around the trunk, sized to canopy diameter, and fertilize with 5-10-5 or 8-8-8 at one pound per 100 square feet. Water soak in, repeat every 7 to 10 days in hot periods, fertilize monthly during growth, and suspend during dormancy.
