Rainfall ends heat as clouds dump many inches

A cool thundercloud moved across McCulloch County on Tuesday morning, bringing rain totals ranging from about 0.35 inch downtown to over 3 inches at Mercury’s Albert Finigan service station. Brady gauges showed varied totals from 0.25 to 1.7 inches, with several locations reporting substantial rainfall and cooler temperatures after a 101 degree day.

Heart Attack Fatal To Roy Holliday Brady Contractor

Roy Holliday a 68 year old Brady resident and house moving contractor died of a heart attack at 3 30 p m Friday while leveling a house at 1211 South Hackberry Street in Brady He had a history of heart illness and had refused hospital care He was born July 17 1887 in Menard County and lived in Brady since 1907 Survivors include his wife three sons a daughter eight grandchildren and a sister Funeral services were held at 2 30 p m Sunday at Wilkerson Funeral Home with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery

Menard Rancher Injured in Wreck

Robert Henry Kidd aged 49 a Menard County rancher remained in Brady Hospital in satisfactory condition Tuesday after a Friday evening automobile crash on U S Highway 83 about 20 miles south of Menard. His car overturned and he suffered several broken ribs.

Uranium Dirt Sitting Parlor Opens in Brady

Brady opens a new dirt-sitting establishment in the former Star Lite Inn building on Scenic Drive. Promoters J. E. Hughes and M. J. Green, with operator Roy Denman, offer customers paid sessions sitting in uranium-rich soil. The fad began in Comanche for ailment relief with rivers of visitors.

Teens Attend First Dance At Country Club

Sixty four teens from the high school and college crowd attended the inaugural social event at the Country Club since city control began. Mrs. Nelson Dukes praised the turnout calling it a big success despite a concurrent Bulldog Stadium football scrimmage. She noted the kids enjoyed themselves and stayed until midnight as pennants and school colors from Brady Rochelle Melvin decorated the ballroom.

Brady district totals show 1170 students enrolled, down 91 from 1261 last year, with high school 266 down 15. Melvin totals reach 194 with 51 in high school, vs 225 last year. Lohn enrollments total 136, up five from 131, with 43 in high school.

ASC Committee Members Renamed For Another Year

The McCulloch County ASC Committee was re elected for one more year at the county convention in Brady. Theo Lyckman was named chairman with Ben Hodges as vice chairman and E O Henderson as member. New alternates are J Warren Harkrider and Owen Rudolph. Delegates to the county convention include Edward Lyckman Sidney Coonrod and Oscar Beakley. Hodges moved from the county to the community committee replaced by R J Deck. New terms begin Sept 1.

Brady's Bulldogs Show Potent Potential In Scrimmage

Brady's Bulldogs impressed in an unpubli cized scrimmage with Junction's Eagles here Saturday night. They showed speed from Johnny Bradshaw and Fletcher Fields, power in the run game, solid quarterbacking from Lesley Fisher, and strong punting from Fields. The line led by Byrd and Weise looked big and experienced for high school play. The event drew about 200 fans as a practice event with no penalties or official scoring.
