Anson Bulldogs Show Strength In Rain Scrimmage

Anson coaches praised the Bulldogs after a soggy Tuesday scrimmage that resembled water polo at times. Donzell Fielden starred on defense and at fullback as hits and timing were worked on while passes faltered. Ends Dennis Lane and Gary Davenport showed potential despite rain and fumbles, with Wilton handling kickoffs and punting duties.

Civic Leaders Praise Brady School Cafeteria Debut

A 90 plus group of Brady civic and business leaders toured the new West 11th Street cafeteria serving 288 diners and capable of 975 for banquets. Supt. Reynolds noted daily student meals and free lunches funded by the state while staff including Mrs. Patterson and Mrs. Larremore oversee operations and staffing.

Grand Jury To Convene Monday

The McCulloch County Grand Jury is recalled for Monday August 30 at 9 a.m. Judge Joe Dibrell of the 35th Judicial District will ask the jury to consider about 10 complaints filed since the last session.

Henry McCabe announces Alvin H. Woody of Waco as local plant manager at Heart of Texas Mining Co. Woody succeeds Bill Edwards, moves from Waco Aggregate Co. He is an HSU alumnus, former West Texas Fair director, and active Baptist deacon with a wife and three children. They will relocate to 506 W. 14th St. on Sept 1.

Pro Am Tourney Postponed to September

The Pro Am tournament set for Sunday August 20 at Municipal Golf Course has been postponed. Heart of Texas Golf Association announces the event will be rescheduled for a later date in September due to golfers being out of town this weekend.

Mrs Edward Geeslin Breaks Hip After Fall

Mrs Edward Geeslin suffered a broken left hip after a fall at home Wednesday at about 5 45 pm. She is in Brady Hospital and underwent surgery Thursday afternoon. She was reported to be doing well and recovered from the operation.

Job Corps Program Offers Opportunities at Gary Center

At a Brady Lions Club luncheon in Plateau Restaurant Rep. Terry Townsend introduced Rev. Carroll T. Cole who described Gary Job Training Center in San Marcos with 11 700 students. He highlighted a student Guy Nelson from Pearland who found new prospects in drafting after dropping out, and stressed Job Corps helps welfare youths gain trades and confidence for gainful employment.

Brady High enrollments lag as term begins

Brady High School reported 331 students registered by Thursday morning, short of 385 last year. Seniors numbered 70, juniors 70, sophomores 90, and freshmen 90 with locker assignments. Some students did not pay library fees and won’t receive lockers next week, affecting official counts. Other Brady schools plan registrations Monday. Guests of Lackeys included Charles Smith and family visiting from Norman Oklahoma. Smith is finishing a doctorate at the University of Oklahoma.

Marshalls Return From Colorado Visit to Aurora

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Marshall arrived home Tuesday morning after a two week stay visiting their son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. John Marshall of Aurora Colorado. They admired the mountain views and scenery during the trip.

Brady Schools Announce Full Faculty For Brady System

Supt. C A Reynolds released the Brady Public Schools faculty listing for six schools. Classes begin Monday August 30 with a full schedule starting Tuesday. Names include district leaders counselors teachers nurses and staff across North and South Ward Elementary Fast China East and other campuses. A resignation from Leonard Bloom opens a Hebrew University fellowship, and a vacancy for a music teacher-choir director remains. The first faculty meeting occurs Friday in the Band Hall with a social to follow in the homemaking building.

Brady Graduate To Participate In Nursing Program

Johnnie Sue Jordan 1965 Brady High School valedictorian has been chosen for the Walter Reed Institute of Nursing Program. She will study two years at Baylor University in Waco then transfer to the University of Maryland to finish a BSN while training at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington. She will serve four years in the U.S. Army hospitals after training, with Army paying the costs. Jordan is the daughter of Rev and Mrs J. Jordan of Brady and Kenosha Wisconsin.
