Lowich Brothers Built Fortune Tied to Government Leasing
The La h brothers of Waco once small merchants rise to big-time builders through government lease purchase programs. Asher and Sander Lowich own and manage federal office buildings in Dallas Austin and New Orleans, using five and twenty year lease terms to profit while the government gains eventual ownership. They started after World War II with the Hill Building in Waco rebuilt under a VA lease, then expanded via apartment acquisitions and new office structures.

West Texas geese hired to chop cotton prove efficient
West Texas farmers Billy Hand and Charles Long bought 240 geese in Las Cruces New Mexico to weed their 845 acre cotton fields. The geese work day and night, feeding on grass while leaving cotton intact, and require barley as their only wages. After one week the geese delivered cleaner work than hoe hands on the 45 acre strip Hand set to the task.
