Tiny Planet Hermes Threat to Earth Sparks Space Curiosity
Washington says a six-tenths mile wide asteroid Hermes is speeding toward Earth with a one in a billion chance of collision. It will pass about four million miles away in June 1968, while other asteroids like Geographos have known orbits that bring them near Earth. Astronomers note about 1,600 asteroids have been detected and estimate over 20,000 may exist in the solar system.
