Centennial plans for the McCulloch County 100th anniversary move ahead with a Sept. 6 street party on the courthouse square from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Centennial chairman Jerome Wilkerson says two Austin bands will perform with one to be announced next week.
C A Lefty Reynolds and his wife Lucille leave Brady school service after 23 years as superintendent. The couple, fond of fishing, travel in a Winnebago testing streams for bass and trout across the U S. Their son Dr Charles Reynolds recently joined Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital staff and has caught multiple large fish.
Brady residents can pick up free tickets for the September 9 concert by the United States Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus. Tickets are available at Heart of Texas Pharmacy City Drug Rudder Drug and Gibson's Pharmacy for no charge. Seating is limited and tickets are required for entry at 8 p.m. in Brady High School Auditorium. The event is sponsored locally by Brady Public Schools Brady Band Boosters The Brady Standard-Herald and KNEL Radio.
City Council held a two hour session on gas pressure and curtailment affecting the power plant. Mayor Lawler cited diesel use for 45 days and higher costs straining the budget. A meeting with Brady gas interests and banks yielded cautious optimism about restoring supply, with details due at a special session. The panel also approved an industrial waste permit system and addressed insurance refunds, janitorial costs, and a lake lot sale. The mayor noted a Community Development grant and possible sewer street work within 60 to 90 days.
Brady Jaycees official Chris Leifeste says final registration left real estate, accounting, English and business math classes under the 200-student target. Central Texas College will return to Brady from 4 to 6 30 p m on Tuesday Aug 26 to register more students, with high school seniors eligible to take courses. Call Leifeste for details.
About 60 contestants from Brady area have entered the annual Bar-B-Q Goat Cook-Off to be held August 29 and 30 at Richards Park. Cook-off chairman Dr Richard Lane says entries are progressing well and the event promises to be a major affair. The $100 first prize lures competitors seeking the title of World’s Champion Bar-B-Q Goat Cooker. Judges include Roddie Peeples and Sam Pender.
Four Brady Volunteer Fire Department members were honored with service pins at the annual barbecue at Richards Park. J W Willmann earned a 10 year pin. Jerry Petty and Joe Capps received five year pins. Jesse McAnally got his 20 year pin and a watch later. E M Red Pearson was recognized for 26 years and recent retirement. About 130 attendees enjoyed the event as the Jaycee Wives promote a County Fair with contests and goat barbecues.
E. A. Conner, a Clyde native, was named senior vice president and director of Commercial National Bank, succeeding Tommy Ammons who moved to Central National Bank in San Angelo. Conner's background includes Eastland National Bank VP, Peoples State Bank Clyde, Lions Club leadership, and Chambers of Commerce posts. He and his wife Rita plan to relocate to 1114 West 11th Street.
A Tuesday budget vote set the school tax rate from 1.25 to 1.50, a 21 percent increase, with a total budget of 1,337,930 for 1975-76 up from 1,213,623. Maintenance costs rise to 1.44 and bonded indebtedness remains six cents. Supt. Carroll Tatum cites a 100 percent local fund assignment rise, higher salaries, and utility costs as key factors.
