Tales of motorists appealing for leniency reach Justice of Peace Joe Myrick as most speeding cases are settled by mail. Drivers cite emergencies, finances, or football games while one even jokes about highway robbery. Myrick uses a standard fine form and only rarely grants accommodations.
Ann Virdell, 16, of Rochelle High School, named McCulloch County 4-H Gold Star girl of the year. The honor recognizes leadership and county 4-H contributions. winner will receive the award at fall Achievement Party.
L. C. Hargroves of Melvin has McCulloch County's first bale of 1959 cotton ginned Wednesday at Van Court. The bale weighed 420 pounds and came from 1,760 pounds of seed cotton. He expects about half a bale per acre.
The fourth Sunday event takes place at North Side Baptist Church in McCulloch County starting Sunday afternoon at 2 o clock.
Members and friends are invited to attend the churchs 25th anniversary and homecoming Sunday August 23 A picnic supper will be served at 430 p m in addition to regular services at 11 a m and 730 p m
Brady announces opening plans with registration schedules for high and elementary levels. Seniors through freshmen register Aug 25–26 while younger students register Aug 31 on a short first day. Regular classes begin Sept 1 with standard bus routes and lunch milk programs continuing.
Brady city golfers push toward the finals of the All City Tournament with the championship flight narrowed to Jerome Wilkerson Pete Newman Paul Huntington and John Curtis. Newman defeated defending champion Freddie Lawrence 5 4 in the second round. Semi final matches included tight contets with several going 19 or 20 holes. Ex Mayor D A Harkrider and B D Geeslin posted notable early wins. The women’s flight lists several qualifiers with scores.
Brady Junior High postpones its summer band school due to illness of Band Director Joe McDonough who was hospitalized with an ulcer. He had just returned from the Texas bandmasters convention in San Antonio.
Miss Linda Moore left for Midland Monday to spend a week with her sister Mrs. W B Cross, Mr Cross, and family.
Dowling Kennedy now 18 visits Brady and Voca for the first time since 1955. In a letter to The Standard he thanks the Brady and Voca communities for help after the 1956 low water bridge drowning disaster that claimed his mother, stepfather, and sister.
