Confederate Guns From East Texans and Texas Memorials
Eight miles west of Rusk Texas stood a Confederate Gun Factory built in 1862 that failed to secure materials for rifles and instead produced Colt pistols now marked by a historical postscript about Black labor. A memorial near Brownsville warns Americans to be thankful for blessings and to prevent history from repeating itself. Seth Thornton and 62 Dragoons faced Mexican troops at the site. A Pueblo Indian ruins hotel sits forty miles northwest of Amarillo near Saddleback Mountain on the Canadian River.
