City and County Discuss Fire Truck Bids and Paving
City Council opened bids for a new city-county fire truck but made no immediate purchase. County Commissioners plan to meet again Monday to review bids. Council action included removing parking meters on Mast Lockhart and South Church blocks and opening bids August 19 for pavement seaboating of 29 blocks. City Recorder Mrs. Carroll reported July fines totaling 623 dollars.

Harris Freed In Shooting No Bill On Murder Charge
A McCulleen County grand jury voted 11 to 1 to return a no bill against J B Harris Jr of Shreveport for the July 3 fatal shooting of Joe Kuykendall at the Jubilee race track in Abilene. Harris surrendered after the incident and claimed Kuykendall threatened him with a horse and a horseshoe rasp. The jury heard 35 to 40 witnesses before reporting for the noon session. Indictments were also handed up against two men and a woman for forgery. they pled guilty and were sentenced to three years each.

Joe McDonough will start a summer band school at Brady Junior High. Seventh and eighth graders meet 8:36 to 9:30 a.m. while sixth graders rehearse from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The program runs August 11 to 15, skips a week, then resumes August 25 in the junior high band hall. McDonough and Director Boyd Hunt attend a Texas Bandmasters Clinic in San Antonio August 18.

4-H Girls Compete In District Dress Revue San Angelo
Jerrilyn Lohn represented McCulloch County in the district 4-H dress revue at San Angelo on August 5 and won red ribbon in the senior division earning a sewing kit. Carolyn Huffman, a junior 4-Her, modeled her skirt and blouse and also received a sewing kit. Thirteen seniors and fourteen juniors participated as county delegates accompanied by Mrs. Lohn and Mrs. Tommie Sue Price.

Man Electrocuted in Freak Accident
T J Bingham 28 a former Brady man was electrocuted Tuesday afternoon in San Antonio. He was trying to disconnect a leaking copper water line from the trailer to a yard faucet when a short in the trailer wiring delivered a fatal shock. Neighbors shut off the 120 volt feed and moved him from the pipe but he died at Santa Rosa Hospital. Funeral planned at Gospel Tabernacle Thursday at 3 p m with burial at Rest Haven. Survivors include his wife son Travis and his parents Mrs and Mrs Tine Bingham of Brady and grandmother Mrs Nora Zumwalt Brady born December 8 192% married September 24 1954 and a sheet metal worker.

Murder trial set for Ledbetter case involving 11 year old rancher
District Judge A O Newman announced a special venire of 120 men for the murder trial of Rollie White Ledbetter charged with murder with malice in the poisoning death of his wife on April 20. Ledbetter has remained free on a $20 000 bond since indictment last May.
