SCS to Build 2 More Dams in Brady Creek Project

The Soil Conservation Service plans two additional dams in the Brady Creek flood program after May 1955 rains. Bids on Sites 43A and 43B totaled 109095.75 dollars, awarded to Cox & Hamilton of Corsicana. Sites 43A on R A McShan and Mrs Joy Walker White property, Site 43B on L G Swenning land. These dams will drain about 6000 acres and complete nine remaining structures in the Brady Creek plan. San Saba County work nears completion of 12 Lower San Saba watershed dams with Site 1 on Richland Creek under construction by O M Baker of Hurst. Next is Site 2 on Richland Creek owned by Charlie White and Joy Lina White.

Percy Snodgrass son of Mrs J H Snodgrass Brady was seriously injured last week in an automobile accident near Donna Texas He remains in critical condition in Weslaco Hospital Weslaco He lived many years in the Doole community and is brother of Mrs Nevis Williams Brady Mr and Mrs Williams went to Weslaco last Thursday night to be with her brother They returned Saturday night.

Liberty Revival Set to Start Saturday at Voca Church

Gals to Play for Polio Fund Charity Baseball Game

Brady women will square off Monday night August 10 at 8 at the Little League field. Admission is a contribution to the Emergency Appeal of the March of Dimes now wiped out of polio funds.

Brady High summer band draws steady turnout

Brady High's summer band school runs July 27 to August 14 with 60 to 65 students daily. Director Boyd Hunt notes a good turnout and expects a final size near last year's 20 to 28 members. Activities include a September 4 Balliver game prep and a band camp August 20 to 29 at Garner State Park with five majorettes chosen and Drum Major Carlene Brown.

Movie to be Made at New Brady Pool Saturday

A large crowd of swimmers is sought at the new Brady pool Saturday afternoon to appear in films designed to showcase the pool. A. E. Stein Company of New Braunfels plans the production to attract interest from other towns considering similar facilities. About 15 dollars in nickels dimes and quarters will be dropped into the water to lure participants, with three tokens worth 23 2 and 1 dollars hidden among the coins. The coin scramble begins at 1 30 p m.

Jubilee Float Wins Parade at Junction Race Meet

The Jubilee float won first place in its division during the Junction Jubilee parade opening the Hill Country Race Meet. Jubilee manager Korky Steffens and float chairman Ed Davenport praised the turnout while riders included Miss Heart O Texas Ann Cates Porcelia Bell and Judy Samuelson.

Brady Rotary Club hosts Dr. Sloan Batchelor of Kerrville as District 584 governor in an official visit. He will speak to members, confer with President James H. Francks and Secretary Edward Geeslin, and has long served Rotary districts and pastorates. his hobby is Hereford cattle breeding.

Pioneer Gas Company Declares Dividend

Directors of Pioneer Natural Gas Company met in Amarillo on August 4 and declared a dividend of 40 cents per share on outstanding common stock. The dividend is payable September 4 to stockholders of record at the close of business August 21.

Brady Sees Heat Peak As Water Use Rises

Brady faced a heat spike with 98 degree days early in the week and three days of 8 degree heat. City Supt. James Feazelle notes water consumption exceed three million gallons daily but no trouble yet as residents watered less earlier in the season. Rainfall totals for the year reach 15.25 inches with May, June and July the wettest months.

4 H Girls Win Ribbons at Dress Review in Abilene

Jerrilyn Lohn the senior county winner received a red ribbon and pinking shears at the District 7 Dress Review in Abilene. Carolyn Huff earned a blue ribbon and a skirt marker as a guest participant. Vyvien Duncan and the girls’ mothers accompanied them. Jerrilyn is an eight year 4 H member and former district public speaking winner and Gold Star Girl. Carolyn has three years in 4 H and is club president in Rochelle.

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Brady at the First Christian Church on Wednesday, August 26, offering blood donations to eligible donors with locations and times set for the event.

Council Hikes Garbage Fees To Trim Loss

The City Council raised garbage collection rates to offset last year’s $8,570 sanitation deficit. Residential rates rise from 75 cents to $1 monthly, commercial rates from $2 to $15, with charges set after assessing each business.
