Mt Calvary Lutheran Church announces its annual summer Vacation Bible School from August 8 to 12 for ages 4 to 14. Mrs Rudolph Thormann leads in the pastor's absence while Rev Virgil Schuelein attends Youth Workers' School in Stockton California. Instructors include Lynfred Jo Otte Frieda Thormann Minnie Probst Mrs Hilmer Kruckemeyer and Marilyn Thormann with assistants. Sessions run 9 to 11:59 each morning and a closing program is planned for 7:30 p m Friday August 12.
A fourth break in at Duncan Chevrolet Company this year triggered G. E. Duncan's burglar alarm about 1:30 a.m. Police Chief Dormar Gibbs and officer Robby Spangenberg pursued two suspects, arresting a 25-year-old man found in a yard near 400 South Blackburn. The youth admitted breaking into the firm and gave varying names, saying he was hitching toward Brady with an accomplice.
The Brady city council released Intercontinental Manufacturing Company from maintaining and operating Curtis Field. IMCO signed the release July 18 preserving ownership of related buildings. City gains control of two new hangars and a T-hangar and may lease them to industrial prospects. The city must move the beacon light on 30 days notice. The council also approved repairs, fines report, farm labor camp fee, and considered hiring a city prosecutor for court cases alluding to new automobile insurance penalties.
E. T. Williams of Camp San Saba sold 12 Angus steer calves at the Mason Hereford Angus Feeder Sale last Saturday. Ten calves showed for second place and all 12 averaged 426 pounds, selling for 25.60 per hundred.
The McCulloch County Farm Bureau selects its queen next Tuesday at 8 p m in the Brady High School auditorium. George Jones will play piano as contestants are announced, with Korky Steffens as emcee. The winner receives luggage and may enter the district contest. Friday is entry deadline. Contestants include Bertha Murrah Jerrilyn Lohn Joeen Johnson Juana Jo Estes Melenda Shirley Cheryl Huffman Joan Fullagar. Directors meet Saturday to discuss the queen contest and report on the Texas Farm Bureau Institute in Austin.
Edward Geeslin was elected Tuesday night as president of the Mc Culloch County Community Chest board of directors. Other officers named include Dr. J. H. Francks as vice president Mrs. Cecil Strieg ler as secretary Elbert Boswell treasurer Roy Holliday as coordinator and the Rev. Ervin Watson chair of a publicity committee with Ben Wilson and Ed Williams. Jamie Jam son chairs the budget committee with Don Johnson and M. M. Bradham. Geeslin succeeds Wayne Rawlings and Geeslin Rawlings and Leon Lee will select a campaign manager for this fall drive.
Mr and Mrs Jack Womack of Brady announce a daughter born at Brady Hospital on Tuesday night. She weighed 5 pounds 15 ounces and was named Evelyn Marie. Carl Sorge of Richland Springs sent a sample of peaches from his place five miles north of Richland Springs. Curtis Norman reported Sorge has several thousand bushels ready for harvest.
The City of Brady issued ten building permits and four moving permits in June and July totaling 56 531. Permits ranged from 20 000 for Rudder Drug Company repairs to 40 for T A Lankford minnow pond. Mr and Mrs W D Bradley will receive The Standard and Herald for the coming year at their Addington Oklo home thanks to H D Bradley of Brady. Their subscription was renewed Thursday by Mr Bradley.
Brady and McCulloch County sent a 20 member delegation to Blanco to back Senator Lyndon Johnson as he opened his vice presidential campaign. Johnson spoke at a barbecue supper attended by more than 5 000 people from across the state. "We had a nice time," said Her.
LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson travel from the Texas ranch to campaign and meet media crews, Truman praises the ticket, and a Brady barbecue crowd hears Johnson defend Texas support for the race. The trip includes a Kennedy reconciliation plan, a Brady lake project tie, and a large turnout of party workers from across the state.
Enos E. Polk a Brady Masonic Lodge veteran will receive the Fifty Year Masonic Service Award at a Saturday 7 p.m. dinner meeting. Grand Master John T. Bean of El Paso will attend as special guest. Polk joined in 1910 and has served in multiple lodge offices through the years. New officers installed include Marion Dale Rice Worshipful Master and others.
