Decline in Brady Turkey Production Warns of Lower Prices

The Brady area faces a 25 percent drop in turkey production this year explained by G. D. Bell, Bell Feed Store & Hatchery owner. He notes last year was 40 percent down from the year before as prices are expected to fall while feed costs rise. Bell cites mass production shifts and a move toward chicken eggs, with Beltsville Whites now 50 percent of Brady’s turkeys. Co op members hatch about 12,000 poults, planning 15,000 in May for fall markets, with many birds fed outside Brady, shaping a tighter market outlook.
