Holy Week services will run Monday to Friday at the Texas Theatre from 12 10 to 12 30 each noon. The public is invited and the Rev says the services are designed for everyone in Brady to worship before returning to lunch.
Easter week services at First Christian Church Brady feature guest minister J. Frank Crow from Texas Christian University. The program runs Palm Sunday April 10 through April 15 with daily services and a focus on The Seven Last Words of Christ.
An Easter pageant replaces the Heart O Texas Sunrise Service near Mercury this year. A cast from the community performs an 12 scene pantomime with music narration and lighting, lasting about 90 minutes at the amphitheatre halfway between Brady and Brownwood. Road markers will direct visitors to the site, and all are invited.
The Rev. Paul M. van Buren of Austin will preach Good Friday noon to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He is a theology professor at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest. Dr van Buren studied at Harvard Cambridge Basel and Basel under Karl Barth and joined the Austin seminary faculty in 1957.
William Edward Warren aged 74 died at 8 30 a m Thursday in Rochelle Illinois He was born December 12 1885 in Kentucky and had lived in Rochelle since 1936 Funeral services are set for 2 p m Friday at Rochelle Baptist Church with Rev Harold Kahler officiating Wilkerson Funeral Home directs burial in Rochelle Cemetery Survivors include wife and a brother Ollie Warren of Rochelle Texarkana.
A Hill Country Youth Rally is set for Friday night at the Gospel Tabernacle directed by Rev. B E Baker of Junction. Young participants will perform on the program with refreshments at 6 30 p m and services starting at 7 30 p m. An invitation is extended to all to attend.
Mrs Emil Nelin suffered a stroke at her home on Tuesday and is now a patient at Medical and Surgical Hospital. Her son Charles Nelin from Corpus Christi arrived Wednesday to be with her, and her daughter Mrs Jack Woodford of Austin is expected this weekend.
Brady High star Scott Appleton, a twice all state guard, earns invitation to play for the South in August's all star football game. The event, part of the Texas High School Coaches Association coaching school, will be at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Brady Bulldogs have had players three years running with Larry Smith in 1958 and Max Cox in 1959.
Chamber of Commerce directors met Tuesday night to outline the 1960 program of work. D. A. Harkrider named counselors for committees including Highways, Livestock, Industrial, Organizational, Parks, and Civic Improvement. May 2 board meeting will vote on proposed projects. Corder and Wheeler to represent CC at WTCC convention April 18-19 in San Angelo. A new annual member category with $12 dues was created. Corder to plan County Exhibit Show with Home Demonstration Clubs next Monday.
Mr and Mrs Douglas Moore of Arlington visited in the Gaston Moore home in Melvin recently Their son Douglas Jay returned home with them after a week with his grandparents
The San Saba Sand Company at Voca became part of the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation as of April 1. Headquartered in Lewistown, the Pennsylvania firm is a major producer of industrial sand. Current management will stay, and Joe E. Bann, formerly San Saba president, will remain associated with the Voca operation.
The City Council approved 1000 dollars to continue the summer recreation program with the Brady school system. Superintendent C A Reynolds said about five children participated last year, with activities including tennis story-hour softball track and a fitness program for boys aged 6 to 14.
A mayor R M Priesmeyer elected with 137 votes and aldermen John Rudder 142 Wayne Ferguson 136 and R A McShan 1523 were chosen without opposition. Ten write ins included G C Kirk 3 B A Hallam 4 Roger George 2 Frank Lohn 2 George Purcell 2. A street project on Rich Weep Walker Wal Put Street Luttee sites was approved 99 to 32.
Washington lawmakers advance HR 4781 enabling a 2.699 percent Farmers Home Administration loan for Brady Creek flood control dam work with Soil Conservation Service. The measure creates separate appropriations for 11 watershed projects, allowing Brady to access loan funds and fish and wildlife benefits. A public hearing on Brady’s water permit is set for next Tuesday in Austin with a special bus organized for residents.
Civil defense classes start Monday night April 11 at Brady High School with 7 20 report time. Instructors BE L Ross and G I Hubbard say 15 to 20 students per class and the first 40 to report will be accommodated. Hubbard teaches at Dunbar and Ross at North Ward this week.
W. E. Wilson was notified Wednesday of his election as membership chairman for the Civic Music group in this area. He will oversee local membership efforts and coordinate community engagement.
