Ambitious Wardship Sparks Love and Deception
In 1927 a wealthy benefactor takes Billy Wells, Nyda Lomax and Winn into his home for a year as wards to further their aims. Billy alone shows genuine ambition while the others scheme for romance. Tensions mount as Dal Romaine, Winnie's cousin, and Billy navigate jealousy, secret engagements, and a factory tour that inspires a new song. A dramatic homecoming, social event, and hidden affections drive the plot.

New Manatee Park Opens With Ceremony
A civic opening last night marked the formal unveiling of Manatee Park at Manatee and Main streets. Acting Mayor J F Moody spoke briefly as the Manatee Municipal band played, Boy Scouts of Troop 8 performed drills, and children recited and danced in the new recreation space. Editor W G Sparkman served as master of ceremonies as the park was handed to youths to enjoy the modern play equipment. The park, praised for its size and concrete tennis courts, is described as city-worthy and plans exist for an event for the elderly. Seventeen musicians performed under Claude Hebb, with strong community regard for the developing band. Smallpox was known in India in 2000 B C.
