Fatal High Speed Wreck Near Bowie Claims Two Dallas Men
Two Dallas men Aurey Vasher and Walter Johnson died after a 1956 Ford wreck on highway 287 near Fruitland. Investigators say Vasher and Johnson, who were speeding and attempting to pass a bus and another car, slid 100 yards in a ditch and rolled five times. The crash occurred about 2:40 a Sunday. Vasher died 15 minutes after hospital transport. The body was sent to Wichita Falls for burial.

A district court verdict favors Hudson Engineering Co. over Wm. H. Green and Mrs. Ruth Taylor in a consolidated $216,000 damage case linked to the Bowie Gasoline Plant explosion. New Building For State Highway Dept To Start Soon
A new frame building for the State Highway Department in Bowie will provide Resident Engineer offices. The 35 by 38 foot structure with asbestos siding, air conditioning, drafting rooms and reception area will be erected at highway headquarters on Highway 81. Gary-Nees Lumber Co. won the contract as low bidder at about $14,000.

State Lets Contract For Nocona F M Road

Frank Underwood announces construction of three new buildings on six acres northwest of the Texo Feed Market on the Wichita Falls highway. The office will be 20 by 40, and two manufacturing stock buildings 20 by 120 and 20 by 60. Existing Gulf Pipe Line Co buildings between Bowie and Newport will be dismantled for reuse. Grass fires believed started by vandals on both sides of highway 287 spread rapidly Sunday afternoon across nearly two miles between Fruitland and Bowie. Fences and small out-buildings were burned. several property owners suffered damage. Bowie Fire Department aided in stopping the blaze. No arrests reported. Firemen fought a separate grass fire on East Montague Street Friday around 7 30 p.m.
