Sandra White, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A M White Jr., suffered a severe ankle sprain after stepping from the stands at the Bowie Rowdy game Saturday night. Her mother sought crutches as drug stores and civic groups could not assist.
A local family placed a for sale ad in the Bowie News offering a Boy's 26 inch bicycle for 7.50 dollars. The ad drew buyers quickly as the 50 cent commission showed how effective the paper's classifieds can be. Call 2-1742 to inquire or place your own ad.
Ted Daley of the Sabin Oral Vaccine program urges 80 percent uptake to wipe out Type I polio in Montague County. The Sunday vaccination will run 1 to 4 PM in Bowie high school gym and in Nocona and Saint Jo. About 4657 county residents have received the vaccine, roughly one third, with 700 more unvaccinated children expected to participate.
Oil drillers report increased activity near Bowie Texas as multiple new operations start. H. A. Mills No. 1 J. W. Hogue seven miles south of Bowie aims for a 7 000 foot test while several rigs advance in the area including Mack Commons No. 1 Ford and Humble No. 1 Jones eight miles southwest seeking production in the Isaac Garner survey and adjacent tracts.
W A Ragsdale suffered painful injuries Monday when a car jumped off the wash rack at his service station on E Wise street pinning him to the wall. He sustained a broken left leg and a chipped knee cap in the right leg and will be confined to the hospital for some time.
The Bowie Chapter of Future Farmers of America met to open the school year on Monday September 10 with Janet Young named FFA Sweetheart. Nine Bowie FFA members plan to attend the Fort Worth area banquet September 24 and the group also aims to attend the State Fair in Dallas. A total of 45 members and three guests were present.
Advance tickets for the Bowie Graham football game at Graham go on sale at the high school principal's office. Adult reserved seats cost 1.50, students 0.50. In Graham, adults 1.25, students 0.75. Here, 276 student tickets available. sales close at 1 p.m. Friday. Adult reserved blocks sit near the 0 yard line.
Bowie Chamber of Commerce directors urged a traffic light synchronization plan along Wise street to enhance 35 mph through traffic. State and city officials would be contacted to support the project with welcome signs north and south of town. A traffic light at Wise and Mills might stay on during football crowds. Frank Norton joined as a new director and a 12 copy brochure on Bowie area will be produced for industrial development outreach.
Joe Vassar selected 14 of 15 football contest games and won the $10 first prize. Four runners up tied for second with 13 correct, decided by the Bowie Wichita Falls result. Oscar McCracken and Henry Dorado each predicted 18 7 and 9 9 15 respectively, while Penny Gibbins had 8 0. The Columbus News invites readers to enter this week’s free contest before Friday’s deadline.
Bowie residents invited to a ten hour Retail Credit and Collection Procedures course at Lome High School from Monday to Thursday October 1 through 4. Led by Lowry M. Carpenter from the University of Texas, the program features night sessions to maximize attendance and targets owners managers and staff of retailers banks and service firms. Bowie High School Band captured first prize of 100 dollars at the Clay County Pioneer Association Parade in Henrietta after about ten bands competed. Judge James Jacobson praised the band’s sound and carriage, with Janet Young as drum major and Robbie Landers among the majorettes. The band travels with the Jackrabbit football team to Graham Friday.
