Last Rites For Cpl Bruce Gilmer
The body of Cpl Bruce Gilmer arrived in Bowie on November 11 from France where he was killed in action in 1944 at age 23. Funeral services were held November 14 at Stoneburg Church with Rev. Dwight Baker officiating. Interment followed at Hopewell Cemetery. Survivors include his mother and stepfather Mr and Mrs Oscar Atkins and two sisters Mrs W T Jenne of Wichita Falls and Mrs Alton Lenz of Lawton Oklahoma.

Bowie businesses and public offices will close all day on Thursday November 25 in observance of Thanksgiving. The Powie News will publish Wednesday. Services Sunday For Wayne Dorsey
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Burgess Chapel for Wayne M. Dorsey who died November 11 in a Wichita Falls hospital at age 42. Rev. G B Bradshaw officiated and burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs W G Dorsey of Bowie two sons Lester of Bowie and Wayne Jr of Odessa three brothers Tony Fred and Raymond and one sister Mrs Beulah Whitaker.

Continental Oil drillers reported promising activity in Montague County with No. 1 L. M. Staley showing signs of discovery after a drill stem test to 5979-97 feet, producing over 3700 feet of oil and 225 feet of salt water. Nearby No. 1 R. A. Stewart flowed 320 barrels in five hours, and No. 1 Stansall produced about 60 barrels in 24 hours. Development in Wise County Chico field continued with several wells, including one totaling over 1000 barrels per day.
