Plans Complete for Observing National Art Week Exhibition

Bowie Art League led by Mrs. Mabel Goodwin outlines an American Art Week from November 7 to 14 with a sidewalk show on November 14. Local and invited artists from Montague county and beyond will display art in shop windows, with participants from Fort Worth and Vernon. Mrs. Paul Donald notes several acceptances. The Bowie's Maids and Matrons Club assist, urging public participation and inviting artists to call Mrs. Goodwin. A large Second Monday trades day is expected to coincide with the event.

Farmers urge vote for county trapper proposal

Farmers cattlemen and turkey raisers urge Montague County voters to support a proposal asking the Commissioners Court to cooperate with the Federal Government in employing and sharing the trapper salary. The measure, backed by the Farm Bureau and the Farmers and Stockmen’s Association, covers costs and reflects wolf and coyote kills attributed to the government trapper from 1947 to 1949.

Paul Boedeler in Critical Condition After Auto Collision

Paul Boedeler, a Bowie's leading citizen, is in critical condition at Bowie Hospital after a collision on Ringgold highway Tuesday night. Navy Lt. (jg) Lewis Roberts, who drove the other car, suffered a broken arm, injured hip, and other injuries. his wife was bruised but not seriously hurt. The Roberts were en route from Corpus Christi to Norfolk after leave, aiming to visit parents in Harter, Kansas, then Memphis and Norfolk.

Open Concert Season Opens with Josh Wheeler in Bowie

Josh Wheeler, eminent American baritone, opens the 1949 1950 concert season for the Bowie Municipal Concert Association at Bowie High School Auditorium 8 p.m. Monday November 7. Hunters Bag Wolf on Benton Ranch Near Stoneburg

Coyote H. S. Walker and Fred Gardner of Bowie traced and killed a coyote on the Benton ranch near Stoneburg after an 8 p.m. trail, with the hounds finishing the hunt around 1 p.m. The pair own top wolf dogs and enjoy frequent hunts while aiding farmers by reducing the wolves threatening poultry and livestock.

Bowie Plans Honor Event for First Football Team

The Bowie Quarterback Club outlines a December celebration honoring Bowie's first football squad from 1912 alongside the present team. James V. Allred is invited as Master of Ceremonies with a university coach as guest speaker. Invitations extend to 1949 dads, district 10-A coaches and captains, and former lettermen living away from Bowie. Mayor David Major Receives Citizen’s Award at Chamber Banquet

At the annual Chamber of Commerce event in the High School cafeteria about 200 people watched Mayor David M. Major named town’s most useful outstanding citizen for the past year. Judge W E Benson presented the award on behalf of the chamber, with retiring president Fred L Raborn Sr. and others offering congratulations. The report cited Major’s community service since last April and leadership in a long range utilities plan focused on water and sewage improvements.

Slayden elected president of Bowie Chamber of Commerce

Jack Slayden was elected president at the Bowie Chamber of Commerce directors meeting on Tuesday night. Mark High was chosen as vice president and Parks as treasurer. Slayden, long active in chamber affairs with oil and livestock ties, led an enthusiastic group of directors urging citizen support and committee service for the chamber’s open, no strings attached operation.
