Pioneer Settler Dies at Vashti
Robert Daniel Turner 79 died May 4 after a weeklong illness at his Vashti home. A pioneer of Vashti for 63 years born February 20, 1863 in Tarrant county, he married Sarah Greerlee and lived in the Indian Territory and New Mexico before returning to Vashti. Survived by wife two daughters six sons 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren two sisters and three brothers. Funeral service at Vashti Methodist Church conducted by Rev. A. L. Dennis with pallbearers W. A. Barker Forrest Starnes Tom Bragg J. M. Donald Welton Barker and J. W. Lawson. interment at Vashti. Owens and Brumley Funeral Home directed. Music led by Herman Cozart.

Jones spoke on the radio but his mother, in Bowie, missed his message. she remains proud. He previously sustained a 1941 ankle injury and later served as an ambulance driver, with duties unknown at present.

Workmen will remove four concrete Tombstones at center street intersections Wise and Tarrant with Smithe and Mason after about ten years in place. A 1923 senior class marker at Mason and Tarrant was dedicated to WWI casualties and the names plaque moved to Pelham Park memorial.
