Trio Injured in Ringgold Two-Car Collision

Tommy Stillwell of Ringgold Chet Anderson of Duncanville and Francis McCann of Dallas were injured in a two car crash near Ringgold Wednesday afternoon. Owens Brumley ambulances took the men to Bowie hospital for extensive cuts and bruises then one was transferred to Baylor hospital in Dallas this morning.

Open House At Owens Brumley Funeral Home This Weekend

Owens and Brumley Funeral Home opens to the public with a civic ceremony. Bert Cassle of Bowie served as general contractor translating Harris and Killebrew’s modern design into the finished building. Subcontractors included Garrett & Co. Bowie air conditioning, Glen Brooks Bowie painting, C. O. Stom Jr. Bowie electrical, Ira Aken Wichita Falls Mexico, Woodward Roofing Wichita Falls, Allen Plumbing Bowie. Materials came from Al Moline Hardware Wichita Falls and three Bowie lumber yards.

Funds Raised to Meet Bowie Savings and Loan Capital

The capital stock for Bowie savings and loan is fully spoken for as of now. Fred Raborn Sr. reports the $75,000 required capital stock and $18,750 surplus will be funded when paid into escrow at Bowie First National Bank. Escrow runs until July 2, 1956, with stock certificates issued after a state charter is received. deposits not used will be returned.

Hard Surfacing Road Around New City Lake Next Week

Work on 5 miles of farm to market road 2094 around Lake Amon G. Carter will begin next week after A. R. Lipsey of Blum won the bid at $94,892. Austin bids were opened last Thursday and stakes are being set by state engineers. The project includes a bridge across Big Sandy below the dam and continues from the Rockhill road junction.

Ballot Order Set for Montague County Democratic Primary

Montague county Democratic committee met in the District Court room and drew candidate names for the upcoming primary. The list shows the order for State Senator Herman Fitts Floyd Bradshaw and other local offices including State Representative Anthony Fenoglio and County offices from Sheriff to Constable with party chair J P Roberts and secretary Frank Moss presiding.

Work on the mid section of Mrs. Irene Wood’s building for American National Insurance progresses. Don Tucker, local agent, shares office space with the district office on the second floor of the Wilson building. Leland Gill of Bellevue wins a four year Ward scholarship at Texas A and M College. The award ranges from $200 to $300 per year and is based on scholastic record character and financial need.

Buddy Branson Qualifies For Soap Box Derby

Buddy Branson son of Mr and Mrs Norman Branson made a trial run on Lake Park Drive Wichita Falls Saturday morning for the Soap Box Derby to be held July 4. Of 110 entries 52 youngsters completed the trial on the 1000 foot incline with Buddy in the top 3 and a time of 31.9 seconds. His entry needs some additional work before the derby and he is finishing it now. Mrs Branson and Tommy accompanied Buddy to Wichita Falls for the 7 15 trial run.

Swimming Classes Reported by Coach Mattingly

Approximately 125 students are enrolled in swimming classes. School students meet Monday and Thursday mornings with non-swimmers at 9 am beginners at 10 am and intermediates at 11 am. Ladies’ classes run 10 30 am on Wednesday mornings.

Legion Elects Bill Deweber New Commander

Speake-Meyer Post No. 252 of the American Legion elected Bill Deweber as post commander at its Monday meeting in the Legion hall. Other officers chosen include Roy Wright as adjutant, Curtis Garrett chaplain, E. L. Cloer historian, Homer Mc Daniel service officer, Todd Fryar child welfare chairman, and Rienhart Heinze sergeant-at-arms. The post also voted to oppose the Bradley commission bill and support Veterans Security bill No. 7886 with the district senator and representative.

Bellevue High School Homecoming Draws Hundreds Sunday

Ex students of Bellevue High School will hold the fourth annual homecoming and reunion on the Bellevue school grounds this Sunday. An estimated 500 alumni and families from Texas and other states are expected to attend a free lunch. Van Davis chairs the homecoming committee with Margaret Wright O'Neill as secretary-treasurer. Roy Stom Injured in Derrick Fall Near Chico

Roy Stom sustained head lacerations and chest and leg bruises after falling from a derrick floor on a rig owned by J. B. Revier Drilling Co near Chico. Found unconscious around 8 am, he was taken to Bridgeport hospital for initial care and then moved to Bowie hospital where he is reported to be recovering satisfactorily.
