Ray Sawyer of Hillsboro led a BIG Task Force Seminar at Texas A&M praising the 1961 program while urging state Extension efforts to tailor work to the Blackland region. The conference, sponsored by the Blackland Committee of Texas A&M, drew about 100 attendees and highlighted needs in cotton root rot, soybean varieties, sorghum effects, insect control, and localized fertilizer guidance.
Nocona Industries halted all operations after a funding shortfall. Glova & Securities Investments led by Dave Watkins had moved into Nocona earlier, building an addition and an alternator plant. A writ of attachment on the new building and equipment leaves the plant idle with about 20 workers. Board resignations and SBA loan attempts follow while some stockholders in the foundation vow to resign if replacements are found.
