The First Savings and Loan Association of Bowie now has federal deposit insurance for deposits up to $10,000 per depositor. Fred L. Raborn Sr. received a Washington telegram confirming insurance approval and membership. Biologist Edd Bonn and a crew from the State Game and Fish Commission tested Carter Lake and the old Bowie Lake this weekend. They reported unusually favorable conditions with thousands of new fish including black bass Georgia Red Eye Crappie and channel cat growing rapidly. No rough fish were found.

Bow ie Firemen plan their annual rodeo at Pelham Park arena June 21 and 22 with a parade Friday at 6 p.m. Each evening features 8 p.m. performances including saddle bronc riding calf roping bareback bron e bull riding steer wrestling and ladies barrel races. A post-event dance lights the VFW hall with Mack McCray and his Musick Makers.

Jess Stiles of Haskell Texas has been chosen as head coach and athletic director for Bowie public schools succeeding R E Mattingly who resigned to coach in Dallas. Stiles aged 29 with wife and two children will move August 1 after two years as Haskell coach and Youth Development leader.
