Major Part of Texo Mill Destroyed By Fire
Texo grain market owner Thomas Ayres announced plans to rebuild immediately after a Sunday morning fire destroyed about 5400 square feet of bulk grain storage and milling facilities. The blaze, likely from lightning during a severe storm, left the front offices and sack storage intact with smoke and water damage. Major machinery including a molasses mixer and two hammer mills were lost. water shortages hampered firefighting, and the site is insured. This marks the second natural disaster to strike the market, following a tornado on April 30, 1954.

Car stolen from Kell Municipal airport in Wichita Falls
John Kibler, a former Bowie resident now with the weather bureau at Kell Municipal airport in Wichita Falls, reported his 1953 Ford Tudor stolen from the usual parking area after leaving for work at 8 a.m. Monday. The vehicle disappeared sometime during the eight hours between midnight Sunday and Monday morning.

Five Year Sentences for Bowie Forgery Cases
Paul Hunter Carter was tried in Montague county for forgery in two cases and received five years in each. He forged checks on Bowie Butane Gas Co and cashed them at Bowie Grocery Co and Carter Whitecotton Grocery. Sheriff Tom Lindsey moved him from Pecos for trial. All sentences run concurrently. He faced 14 prior county trials with four year sentences each. Carter was later sent to Decatur for similar charges.
