Two Additional Good Will Tours Planned for Bowie Area

A Bowie merchants group met at Ned Horton's office and agreed to add two more Good Will Tours to the series. Citizens of Buffalo Springs requested another program, next planned for June 8 at Buffalo Springs, with June 15 set for Terral Okla. The earlier program in Buffalo Springs was cut short by threatening weather. Ned Horton, chamber secretary and Retail Merchants Assoc manager, led the event with the Bowie Band and magician Ralph DeShong providing entertainment.

Lions Plan Show And Nominate Officers For Club Year

Lions Club held a weekly meeting to plan a show titled Roaring Varieties to aid Boy Scouts with a June 17 City Auditorium performance. Tickets are with Lions. Ladies Night on June 2 will feature a chicken barbecue at Sinclair Park. Nominees for club officers and two directors were announced for the June 9 election, led by President candidates Sam Lovette and other listed members.

City urges parents to curb airgun and public safety item use

City officials report numerous complaints about windows being broken and street lights damaged by airguns and similar devices. The letter warns that if boys cannot use these items responsibly, their use within city limits will be banned. It cites an ordinance restricting air public safety items and Black person shooters and asks parents to advise their children.

Funeral services for W A Johnson of Sunset were held Tuesday afternoon at Smyrna Cemetery Rev Matthews of Bellevue officiated Burgess Funeral Home arranged the service Johnson died Monday at his Sunset home He was born July 7 1854 in Lincoln County Tennessee and moved to Texas at 15 settling in Ellis County later living in Fannie County and Montague County He is survived by his wife of Sunset.

Bowie man W E Carter dies after heart attack

William F E Carter of Bowie died Saturday at 5:00 am from a heart attack after working the prior night at Sinclair Refining. Funeral held at First Baptist Church with Bowie Quartet singing Farther Along. Interment Elmwood Cemetery. Born 1887 in Bowie, survived by wife six children and many relatives.

Margarette Conrad Wins National Penmanship Award

Margarette Conrad, a fourth grader at East Ward School, won first place in the National Penmanship Contest in the Primary division. Leslie Speir Joins Texas Highway Patrol After Training

Leslie Speir completed six weeks at the Austin Highway Patrol Training School and was in Bowie en route to Wichita Falls to begin duties with the Texas Highway Patrol. He was part of a 96 member graduating class and formerly served with the Bowie Fire Department. He is the son of Mr and Mrs W Z Speir.
